Cheap chinese knock off red dots

The Bushnell TRS 25 is about the best bang for the buck. Pricier than the NC Stars etc. at around $85 but the two I have have been fine. Even slapped one of them on a Mossberg shotgun with a Mesa rail. No trouble at all with lots of buck and slugs

Cheap Chinese Laser Sights - Revisited

Back in entry #35 I said "I am not really into laser sights, I prefer iron sights. But just for the heck of it I bought a $15 dollar rail sight from eBay. It is an uber cheap chinese. sight. I wanted to see how it would stand up mounted on my 9mm's rail. I will report back. The link to one like what I bought is below."

Well, I have opened the sight up to see how it was made. To read my observations and see the photographs you can can read my blog entry titled "Cheap Chinese Laser Sight – what’s inside"

After testing, the last blog entry states "I range tested the Ever-Bright laser sight on the pistol, as shown in the photo above. I took no extra care when transporting the laser equipped pistol, placing it in the bottom of the range bag and piling targets, hat, earmuffs, etc. on top. When I opened up the bag at the range the laser was on, meaning that the stuff above had knocked on the laser’s switch. I then proceeded to fire approximately fifty 9mm Luger rounds. To my great surprise the laser mostly stood up to the firing. I say “mostly” because the dot did move about an inch to the right, at 12-yards, from its initial sighting. Possibly putting Locktite on the adjustment screw threads would have prevented that from happening. I am really surprised – I thought that the sight would get horribly out of alignment yet it did not."

I have a couple of Aimpoints and I think 3 Ultradots. All are good but the Aimpoints are getting crazy expensive. However I also bought about 5 of the $19.99 (with rings!) CDNN red dots. I had problems with one and that was it would fade out at times so I chucked it. All of the others worked fine. I had one on a IZH-35M and I was shooting 560s with it and it never lost zero. The other complaint I have with them is they have a bit of a "halo" around the dot shooting indoors where the Ultradots did not. I have no qualms about using one but for a lot more money, you can get better. YMMV

I found not much inference between the 100 dollar ones and the 600 dollar ones. Unless you are going into combat, I think the eotech and aimpoint red dots are just too much money.

I agree.

Some people are adamant with using expensive optics even if they're just using it for range/competion. Its nice to have an Aimpoint or Eotech, but that money could be better spent elsewhere i.e. more mags and ammo.

IMO a $100-200 optic from Bushnell or Primary Arms is plenty enough for the average shooter. I'm a big fan of Bushnell optics and they have served me well.
