Cheap & Reliable .22lr Pistol?

Hello Guys,

I'm here tonight because i need THR guru's help, i have a Hi-point C9 and a Glock 17 is on it's way, but my girl want something in 22lr and i think it's a good idea since i have like 6,000 rounds and i don't use my .22 rifles much, so here's the thing.

is there a cheap, reliable handgun that i can get? i'm looking for something cheap that i can have fun at the range and introduce other (friends & family) to the sport and i think a .22lr is great to do so.

the 22/45 is built to imulate the 1911 so to me its kinda the more comfortable than the others there are also the browning buckmarks.. and the walther p22 but ive heard of some reliablities issues with the walther

I recently used the 22/45 with a friend at the range. I suggest you buy one with the bull barrel (they are more accurate, and not much more expensive).

Also, if you can find one used, you will likely find it to cost between $150-$250.

I've never owned a .22 pistol in my life, but after using a 22-45, I'm getting one in this April.

+1, However, I found the MKIII 22/45 grip/frame too thin and opted for the MKIII678.

Don't know about the Astra but all the other suggestions are good ones.

Anything Ruger makes in 22 is good. Browning Camper is my favorite. I have the Neos too. It's fun, reliable and accurate but the grip angle is not my favorite.

22 revolvers are a hoot to shoot too. Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Taurus, etc. all make good ones.

Another vote for the 22/45. Very affordable, awesome accuracy. 2.5 lighted reticle scope is perfect for night critters.

As 22's go, I've been shooting my wheelguns exclusively lately -- but as semi's go the Rugers are nice values

what about the Jimenez Arms .22 "J.A 22lr" ? are they any good?

My advice would be to stick with one of the big names. Don't try to get lucky with some off the wall brand just to save a few bucks. As .22 rf pistols or revolvers go they aren't that expensive to begin with. Save yourself the headache of a "generic" firearm. I speak from experience that's for sure.

Of course this is just my opinion......it's worth what you paid for it.

Any model in the Ruger MK-line is worth owning. You don't have to pay new prices, either. The guns are well-made and eminently reliable, so check out the used stock at your favorite shop. You'll quickly spot one or two in the $250 range that will give you a lifetime of fun and service.

Personally, I'd stay away from the plastic-and-pot metal guns, regardless of how cool they look.

I walked into the local gun shop yesterday and came out a half-hour later with a beautiful 1965 Ruger Mark 1 target pistol with the heavy barrel for $325. Can't tell what a thrill it was to stumble on that one. It looks like it just rolled out the doors of the Ruger plant.
