Cheapest AR-15

Is there anything wrong with buying the cheapest AR I can find now If i plan on upgrading the rifle down the road. Anything in particular to stay away from or to look for.

Most suggest you avoid Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorn receivers.

The CMMG Bargin Bin AR is about the cheapest reputable rifle available today at $599.

AR's are like Legos. You can change them and modify them into anything you want. So, there's nothing wrong with starting with a low-priced rifle from a reputable manufacturer and modifying the gun later.

When you get around to making those changes, the first two you should consider would be a better trigger group like the Rock River two-stage National Match, or JP, and a float tube.

There is no money to be saved by buying the cheapest AR now, and up-grading it later.

Get the most of what you want & can afford on a quality AR to begin with.

Then you won't be throwing away several hundred bucks worth of cheap barrels, sights, stocks, rails, etc., on down the road.

After which, you will still have a cheap AR with a Cheap AR brand name and no resale value after spending all that money to up-grade it.

I was actually just looking at cmmg bargain bin. I just didnt really want to take the chance of getting one with a "fixed" handle

Rcmodel, you're forgetting that the thing to do when upgrading an AR is to squirrel away all of those extra parts, and keep an eye out for good deals on the parts you don't have, so later on down the road you can build another AR!

It's like two guns for the price of one!



In this picture, the rifle on the left started life as a plain-jane Rock River Elite Carbine. Since then, I've modified the gun to bring it more in line with what I want in a rifle (in this case, a Mall Ninja Special). I don't really have any intention of selling the gun any time down the road, so I'm not terribly worried about taking a value hit on a re-sale.

I'm pretty sure all the CMMG bargain bin rifles come with the A3 flat top upper, with M4 feed ramps cut into it.
You can find the reviews on CMMG's bargain bin online at plenty of places.. lots of happy people out there.

look for a good deal in the classifieds right now here there is a COLT sporter 2 AR15 (a real Ar15 not a clone) for $795

you can't get much better than that

Take it from me, you don't want the cheapest AR15. The cheapest I would go is Stag Arms.

Remember that anything but the lower receiver can get changed-if the lower is quality, you can end up with whatever you want eventually.

I wouldn't go with the cheapest AR, look a little further for one with a chrome lined chamber and bore. And a quality bolt carrier group. I also like a midlength upper.

The AR I built a few months ago came in at $850 including an A4 carry handle and had all the features I wanted. While it's true you can save the parts you replace down the road and eventually build another AR, I wanted to get it right the first time.
