Very nice looking Mak you got there. I have always wanted one. How much do these go for now-a-days?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhh. NICE!! I love Maks. Mine looks very much like your. I wish I would have bought a handful of them when they were cheaper.

No pics, but I'm a Makophile with two Bulgies, one E.G. and a Russian. They seem to multiply. :)

Real nice looking Mak. I have one its marked Big Bear Arms, Dallas, Tx Model IJ-70 and has an adjustable rear sight. You did real good with the photos too.

Wish I knew how to post pic. but it's to high tech for an old guy.

I'll play, somebody say they wanted to see a makarov with a bottle of Stoli?
My little eastern block buddy...

Could anyone rank Makarov in terms of quality for Russian IJ70, Bulgarian, E. German, and Chinese.

My understanding is this:

E.German > Russian > Bulgarian > Chinese

People mainly complain about the Russian IJ70 due to its adjustable sights.

Any other opinions?

Thanks.

i really want a military Bulgarian, a civilian russian, the polish and chinease one to keep these two company!:D

I've got a Bulgy circle 10 with Pearce grips.I kept the red ones,because I like the looks,but the rubber ones sure are comfy.I also have a Tokarev,and a PA-63.
I LOVE the guns of the Evil Empire!

that is my ij-70 9X18. i also have a bulgarian which my dad won't give back to me :) i had an e. german as well which was my first.

They're kind of a "past passion" to me although I still have four East German guns, two of which make appearances in photos. One of these is different, a little...

Aside from finish level, I think they're pretty much the same, function-wise. They all seem to work well.

i think thats about they only way you can rank them is fit and finish! they are all built to a certain spec.

My 64 East German Mak is nicer in fit and finish, machine work than my 1990's Commercial Bulgarian Makarov. but other than that they are pretty much the exact gun.

i would expect the russian military ones to start flooding the market in the next few years due to russia dropping the Makarov in favor of another pistol here recently.

Yeah, the EG versions are the best put together. It's kinda' subtle and may not be noticable to some people who don't pay attention to anything other than does it shoot, or does it not shoot, but the blueing polish job was nicer, there are fewer machine tool marks inside and the EG's run a little smoother and tighter than the rest of them. Mine are 1960, 1961, 1962, and 1964. Maybe the best is the one with Marschall grips above and the worst is the rubber grip skinny one below.

The BB gun is one that I'd forgotten was here until someone started a thread about them. I just posted it as a joke, but I'd let it go for a decent collector price.

Some Russian versions or periods were very noticably shabby, and most all early Chinese were pretty bad. The first Bulgarian I had was very rough but a later one was nearly as nice as the German guns.

I dumped all but the Germans several years ago. Had one of the double stackers for exactly one firing with one mag and then handed it to a buddy and said "Here, It's yours" My lasting opinion of those things is that it ranks right up at the top of the list of POS guns I've had, and over the years I've had a LOT of guns.

The "ranking" in Makarovs is pretty subjective. Of the ones I own I'd rank them

East German
Bulgarian
Russian Commercial

However, they all shoot great and are built like Russian tanks.

That's a real nice Bulgie and pictures, dobrzemetal. Congratulations.

My first Makarov was an East German that I bought in 1996 for $169. It survived a fire wonderfully a year and a half ago because, as someone said earlier, they're built like tanks.

Here's one of mine with a Brigade GunLeather holster:

Here are my three Maks: E. German, Bulgarian, Russian Military.

Used to have this Chinese, but sold it a few years ago.

Uhhhh.......from what I've heard, the reason to avoid guns that have been in fires is because it may have affected their heat-treatment of the metal, not that the gun melts. You may wish to verify this, all things considered.
