I just made a deal to get this: Smith and Wesson Hand Ejector in .44 Special, with barrel cut to 3.5" and a rifle ramp and silver bead installed.
I have a 2nd model HE cut to 3.5" already, but it's uglier than this one, and parkerized. I have been waiting around to put a dovetailed shotgun bead on that one for a while, and currently it's a bare frame/barrel waiting for me to get off my butt and send it away for the work.
THIS one, however, will make it right into a holster and get carried, just as soon as I prove it with my SD load.

I certainly hope so. I found it over on the S&W forum. I have the cash in my pocket waiting for the address from the seller, and I will get the MO out to him ASAP. I LOVE ~3" N-frames.
 
I got this old workhorse today, and really like it. I shot 200 rounds of mixed loads from it, and it basically stacks every round into one hole at 15 yards. The best accuracy was from 240 grain LFP loads, and they shot about 1" high of POA at 15 yds. The front sight base is on crooked, but the sights are on at 25 yards, where the groups opened up a little, but I blame the nut on the end of the stock for that one.
I hate the grips, which feel like a plow handle, but are in decent shape. I'll likely trade them off. I put Pachmayr grippers on there, and it feels great in the hand, but I hate rubber grips on a blued revolver, so they are temporary.
It shot so well, and looks so beat up, that I will be carrying it in an IWB rig I have for my 3" model 29.
More pics to follow. (Can't find my little memory card for the camera) All in all, for a rough condition pre-war shooter for a great price, I think I did very well!

Got Some pics of the ugly sucker!

First of all, I realize that the front sight is crooked. Doesn't matter. The gun shoots so well, it's almost boring.
I shot 200 more rounds of 246 grain LRN loads today, and it's pretty awesome. All 200 shot into a 3X5 card at 10 yards. Yep. All 200 rounds.
The gun is pretty friggin cool, and I have carried it since I first shot it. Comfortable in this rig I made from two other holsters.
The serial number places it in 1922. Ser: 164XX. The barrel chop could have come at any point after that. The chopper did a nice job on the crown, but then screwed the front sight royally.
I M-I-G-H-T have a half-moon sight put on by a pro, but for now, it shoots great, and making it pretty is awfully low on my priority list. Got lots of pretty guns, but if any of them shot like this one I'd lock them up.

If you rounded up some Model 1917 'plain' Round Top Walnut Stocks, it'd be lots more comfortable, it'd look damned good with 'em, and, would look about right for a "Yeah, I'm 1922, and 'All Business'..."

Very cool old S & W...
 
The other one is not .44 Special, it's .45 ACP. It was .455 Eley, but was restamped .45AR (Auto Rim) That one is very dear to me. This one was just a goof. I like it a lot, but will likely part with it soon, as I will need the funds for another idea I had.
