What is the best target shape and color for getting the best zero on your ACOG with a chevron? I am trying to find the best way to make the tip of the chevron stand out.

not sure i even understand the question. all the chevrons are the same shape, no? what difference would color make? unless maybe someone was colorblind or something. i definitely prefer the red to the others, but in perfect range conditions, they all zero easy

FWIW, I have a TA01NSN and found it a little bit easier to zero than the TA31F my buddy has. The crosshairs of the NSN line up perfectly with a regular grid target. I didn't think the TA31F was very hard to zero though, they are both pretty simple, just use the very tip of the chevron. Oh and just FYI they should be zeroed at 100 meters, not 100 yards (or 109 yards, roughly). This will make the BDC more accurate, though not 100% as it is not a guarantee of anything, just an estimation for hitting man-size targets.

Color doesn't matter but I prefer red because Aimpoints and EOTechs are red and that's just what I'm used to when it comes to illuminated reticles and electronic sights.

The red chevron stands out the best of all of the reticles I've tried.

As for best target color, for our monthly rifle match wse paint the steel targets black, which helps them to stand out from the beige dirt thag surrounds them.

If you have a 300m range, I would recommend using the 300m dot that is under the chevron. Sight it in at 25m, then move out to 300m to confirm and fine tune. The chevron is for closer ranges.

The main problem for me is not being able to see the tip of the chevron in the middle of the black target.

This weekend, I am going to try using a six o'clock hold on the same target. I think the chevron tip will be easier to see this way.

If anyone has a better idea...

What sort of illumination are you shooting in? With my issue TA31s I've always had tape off a portion of the tube to dial down the brightness for zeroing and shooting during daylight, otherwise it can be so bright you have trouble seeing fine details on a target.

If working up a load or shooting for target accuracy, I always tape off my TA11J to reduce the intensity and get a finer reticle. Mine is green and I very much like it. I find it stands out better than my buddy's red ACOG.
