Chiappa Rhino 50DS

They are certainly different looking, and supposedly the low bore sends recoil straight back and reduces muzzle flip with magnums.

Glad to see you are out and about! Hopefully you can get tome to run some magnums through it soon. :D

Stay safe.
I’ve got a two day market this weekend and another in two weeks. I also have some more bowls I have to make. After that I’ll have more time on my hands.
The single action on the revolver is smooth.

I finally got to the range on Monday. My son, Austin, came with me. He’s not big on revolvers, but said that he likes the Rhino.

We shot 150 rounds through it, fifty 38 spl. , fifty 38 spl +P, and fifty 357 Magnum. At seven yards I could put all six rounds into a tight cluster.
Recoil was not bad at all with the 357 Magnum. I gave it a try at 25 yards and didn’t do too bad.

Thank you for the review.

I have a question. Was the recoil from the .357 jarring to your wrist? I read somewhere that Rhinos recoil straight back and the wrist joint takes the brunt of the force.
I do not trust this as the guy also had nothing good to say about the Rhino.
I learned my lesson years ago believing the lies about Glocks so I am a bit skeptical about what this guy said about the Rhino.

EDIT:
Forgot to add that the Rhino is on my short list of guns I want.

You can definitely tell the difference in recoil from the 38 spl and 357 mag. But I found it to be more comfortable the shooting 357 mag in a S&W model 19. And the fact that the rhino is lighter than the Smith, I thought that would be a big factor, but it wasn’t. It does recoil straight back into your hand.
One of the range staff told me that she had never healed a Rhino before. I did better than let her hold it, I let her shoot it. She shot six rounds of 38 spl , then six rounds of 357 mag. She said that the magnum had more recoil but it really wasn’t that bad. Here’s a pic of her shooting some 357 mag. The gun is at full recoil.

You do need to make sure that you keep your thumbs turned down on your grip or the gas from the cylinder gap will remind you to do so. 🤣

I had a 2” gun and liked it. Sold it with intention to buy a 6” but that hasn’t happened yet. A grand for that gun is a good buy. Shoot it with the craziest ammo you can find and see if the low bore has the same affect of felt recoil. The 2” was much more straight back than a traditional snubby, and I would venture a guess that the long schnozz will amplify that to an extent, although the weight of the longer barrel may reduce felt recoil in and of itself making the point moot.

@GunnyUSMC Thank you very much. I appreciate the info. I have a model 19 and .357 isn’t bad to fire for me in moderation. If the Rhino has a better recoil in regards to muzzle rise that’s even better.
I have an issue with my wrist where the thumb joint mates up to it. Hard recoil in combination with muzzle rise is really uncomfortable.
Your review has put the Rhino to the top of my list. Thank you.

I had the 200DS for a while. Really liked the way it shot with the low bore axis. Great looking as well. The only reason I sold it was to pick up a 50DS like you. The timing hasn't been right yet, but it will happen. Love these revolvers!

Walked into my LGS, and the owner (who has seen quite a lot of my money over the years). He pulled out a 9mm 40DS, said he didn't think it would sell, and offered it for $750 something. I like pistol caliber revos, so I bought it.
I like it quite a lot; nines in a revo can be energetic, but it pushes straight back.
Then, a buddy got the really short, fixed sight version in .357, and it was remarkably soft shooting, even with full house magnums.
Stumbled onto a 40DS in .357, used, and it is also pleasant to shoot.
The double action is quite good, though I'd prefer a narrower, rounded trigger. Never noticed any cylinder burn, though you wouldn't want to climb the frame like the high speed/low drag guys.
The 'hammer' (not really; it's a cocking piece) is a little hard to thumb, but the single action is light. The 'hammer' does not remain cocked when thumbed; there is a red 'cocked gun' pin.
I'd love to find a holster for the.357; they are hard to come by. Suggestions?

My friend Kee owns RM Holsters. He can custom make a holster for you. I’m going to have him make one for me. He may not have a molding block for the Rhino, so I’ll have to leave the gun with him to make it.

If you order one from him, I would be more than happy to let him use my revolver to make the holster.

That gun looks like it was made by Hasbro, not Chiappa. I'd love to shoot one. That's one heck of a vent rib.

They do look like an AI drawn version of a revolver. Mostly right but a little weird. It’s a neat idea, not at the top of my list, but I don’t see any reason they can’t be fun to shoot.

It is also on my short list. I want the 6in so I have the option for an easy optic install on the top and possibly a light on the bottom.

I have a lot of revolvers, but this one is different enough that I want to try it.

I see the 9mm 6in sometimes, or tricked out gold/Harley Quinn versions but rarely (if ever) have I seen a std 6in in .357.
