I did a search and didn't see anything on this.
Some may recall that under Chicago's gun registration ordinance, if you a register a gun, then fail to re-register it, it becomes forever unregisterable. So, to stay within the law, you have to sell it, remove it from the city, or turn it in to the CPD. Alderman Dick Mell forgot to re-register his sizeable collection and proposed a new ordinance to bail himself out. That was covered in the papers, but the fact that a broader version of that ordinance was passed by the city council did not.
According to the city clerk's website, it passed at the June 11 meeting. I think that the window of opportunity is about four months. I called the gun registration office and was unpleasantly surprised, however. There is a $60 per gun fee to take advantage of the amnesty.
Just an FYI in case someone else is also trapped behind enemy lines that had let their registration lapse. Hopefully the whole system will go away as the lawsuits against the city play out, but that could take months or years.
