I wonder where they'll hold the shooting events?

Or are those Olympics going to be "gun-free"?

I was hoping Daley wouldn't get his monument, but I'm sure much money changed hands in bribes to bring this about. As usual.

Nanook, the fix was in and The Family spread so much money around that it was a sure thing. Now the unions get their contracts and The Family gets a slice and gets to lick the spoon with the clean up and directing the money.

Shooting? Outside Cook County. Maybe Indiana? *Snicker* No way THAT will happen, The Family isn't welcome here.:)

El Tejon, I figured this would happen. Having grown up in the city, nothing would surprise me.

Maybe they could have graft events; 100 meter dash with your arms full of cash, shot put into a bartenders face, you know, traditional Chicago type stuff like that. I can imagine the Chicago contingent, faces covered with their jackets, as they go to the podium to receive their medals.

If they get these games, it will set the bar real high for kickbacks, corruption, and graft. New world records will be set.

Now to hope some other city, ANY other city, beats them out. What I wanted to happen, was the Committee milked Daley dry and then gave the games to LA. Now that would be a deserving end to his career.

OCC Ueberroth is warped. Check out his statement regarding the Mayors of
Chicago and L.A. !

"It was a very tough decision," USOC chairman Peter Ueberroth said before opening a sealed envelope and revealing the winning city. "If I had all the power -- and sometimes people accuse me of that -- I would take the map and merge the two cities, because I'll tell you what: If you could take the mayors of these two communities and have them run our country, we would all be better off."
Could you imagine these two running the country ? My Lord..

Suggested Chicago Olympic Events:

1. The House of Squalor Dash: run through a Chicago House of Squalor barefoot and survive without acquiring an infection of some sort.

2. Marathon eating: binge on fatty foods until you are the last one sitting.\

3. Briefcase toss: toss a briefcase full of bribe money for distance.

4. Mafia witness toss: toss a federal witness against The Family out of the Marina Towers into the Chicago River for distance.

5. CPD Sprint: Run for time from CPD who if they catch you will give you a tune up, several felony charges and a typewriter cover confession.

6. Regulation Hurdles: bribe the many inspectors that come out to your small business. Winner awarded on style and discretion.

7. Judge Bribing Middle Distance Race: Winner awarded on creativity for bribing judge in open court. E.g., "You honor, I have a thick stack of motions for you to review in chambers."

I'm sure I can come up with others, of course I will have to get them approved by The Moderator and that will take a small fee in cash. Meet me in an alley off 54th and come alone.:D

El Tejon, I love "The Family" in your posts. It kind of reminds me of The Godfather.

It is appropriate, somehow.

In a state that professes to be short of money, the governor pledged money to cover the Games. Easy to do, when it's not your money.

Come on, Europe!!

I was thinking about this the other day--does anybody know whether the .22 lr target pistols with magazines in front of the trigger guard are "assault weapons" in Cook County? That was the issue that led to the British Olympic team practicing in France, as I recall.

That said, if I can get tickets to Olympic Judo three hours away, I won't be boycotting those games. ;)

Stick with the gun issue...

Given how the city is controlled, is there any particular legal difficulty for "special dispensation" for the shooting events?

Somebody oughta do the letters to the editor thing. Protest the coming of those evil old guns. :D Start a real squabble. Hey, all them furriners in town, shooting guns!

After all, the Olympics only promote war and violence, anyway. All those javelin spear chuckers. Discus and shotput = rocks/stones and such, aimed at enemies. All that running, toward or away from an enemy. Wrestling, boxing, other martial arts stuff. Violence, I say, violence! Long distance running = message carrying for the Army! Terrible stuff.

Then, after the bed-wetters are all stirred up, come in with, "Hey, if they can, why can't we?"

Remember folks it is not a sure thing. It is a possibility.

I would love to see the olympics because it is one of those things that is really significant and I know my parents would love to. The only problem is that I dont want to see Daley getting his hands into any more money. He talked about getting out of the political game but I know if Chicago wins the olympic bid he will stay in until he can loot the olympic committee. Can you imagine Daley bulldozing an olympic track in the middle of the night because they didnt have the proper permits? I can imagine that.

I can imagine all of Daley's friends getting richer off the contracts that are sure to come of this. And I dont like it.

As for the gun issue, well I do see it being held outside of Chicago. I read somewhere that Purdue and Notre Dame offered to let the Olympic Committee use their facilities. I am sure the shooting would be held outside the city and Sparta seems like the place to do it.

Don't forget the 250lb. coward vs. 115lb. woman ultimate fighting event... Oh, I see you didn't. Nevermind.

I've been reading Zorn's blog on the Trib website. It's AMAZING the number of people who posted messages hoping that Chicago WOULDN'T get the Olympics. From the sounds of it, a LOT of people are going to be contacting the IOC and telling them that Chicago is too dangerous for the Olympics.

I live just outside of Chicago as a matter of fact the planes landing at O'hare have their gear down as they pass over my house. I, for one, hope Chicago does NOT get the Olympics. Why? I do not think it will be a benefit to the average person in this area. Most of us will not be able to afford tickets to the events, no matter what little richie says it will cost the taxpayers in the end and cost us dearly. The only people to win in this will be daley and his cronies. The fat cats will get fatter and we little people will pay the price. On a very selfesh note I will say that I do not want anything that makes little richie of his minions look good.

Shooting to the Joliet Police range

The Tribune published a list of the proposed venues.

According to them shooting events will take place in Joliet, (Will County) at the Will County Sherriff's office range, to cover the uncomfortable issue of Cook County essentially banning all firearms.

Thats will be convenient, I'm sure.
