Chinese Arsenal 26 type 56 SKS 549.00 OTD.

Im still kicking myself for not buying the Norinco he had for 300.00 before covid. It was in nice shape too. If i get the SKS above. I'll refinish the wood. Bore condition will be the main thing for me. I'll look at it well. i hope it's not full of cosmoline.

IMHO, it is hard to say if it is GTG, I say that because a LOT of the 7.62x39 ammo sold during that era was corrosive.
And if the bore wasn't flushed with water, it could go to poop over night.
In case anyone doesn't know, some of the ChiCom , and Russian ammo may have "claimed" to be "non-Corrosive" on the box, but actually was plenty corrosive.

And for all those folks that bought theirs way back when, I paid $95 for mine, and another $100 for a case of 1200rds of 7.62x39 ammo
All of us that bought one, considered the cost a painless step up, power wise, from our 10/22's.

Assuming the bore and piston arent badly eroded, its probably a decent buy in today's market. Despite the corrosive primers of the era, most Chinese SKS had chrome-lined bores so they are usually ok.

I've had many SKS and aside from one problem-child Yugo gun, have never had a failure of any sort over thousands of cheap Chicom and Russian rounds fired.

If you get it, lay in a supply of stripper clips and learn to love the stock 10-round fixed magazine. The aftermarket "detachable" or high cap mags are asking for trouble.

Scoping is also pretty much an excersize in futility. The irons are fine for minute-of-enemy at normal combat ranges.

It's a decent enough price for today. As you can see, everybody will be happy to tell you they're not the deal they used to be in years past. That being said - have you priced a classic old .30-30 lately?

If I wasn't already invested in the ammo or already had a gun in the caliber, I personally would probably pass. Unless I just liked 7.62x39 for whatever reason. Cheap steel-cased ammo was most of the appeal, at least to me.

I used kerosene, a 5 gallon bucket, a toothbrush and a rag to de-cosmo mine after taking it out of the stock. Isn't as bad as some make it out to be, in my opinion. And you'll only have to do it once. [EDIT: I see you picked it up for about $75 off asking price; congrats, all the better! I like mine.]

I load my own. No steel case lol. My 1st 7.62x39 was my Ruger American. I got 2 AR'S then in 7.62x39. Those have 308 bores. The Ruger is .311. Im going to slug the SKS after im done cleaning the barrel. No cosmoline in the SKS. That is a plus for me. The person who traded it in must have used it. There is some powder residue in the bolt area. I sprayed some remoil on the bolt assy for now. And have it soaking. I'll wipe it down then and see how clean it gets.
