The Hanyany Type 88 is a copy of the German Gewehr 88.
The Type 88, sometimes known as "Hanyang 88", was a Chinese rifle that was issued to the National Revolutionary Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The name derived from the Hanyang Arsenal factory that made this rifle.
Production started in 1895. The Hanyang 88 was used throughout the Second Sino-Japanese War and the early phase of the Chinese civil war, when the Hanyang Arsenal was shut down in 1947.

Wars in which these rifles saw action:
First Sino-Japanese War, Boxer Rebellion, Xinhai revolution, Long march, Central Plains War, Chinese civil war, Second Sino-Japanese War, Korean War.

I did some horse treading with a friend to add this one to my collection.
This one was made in 1935, April, as shown on the receiver, by the Hangyang arsenal (the star symbol).

I've never seen one before, but now I want one! This just provides further proof that there are only two types of guns out there... those I want, and those I don't know about yet.

One of these would be a nice addition to the collection (it'd fit right by my Type 53).

I tell you what makes this rifle look good. Sitting next to my two all matching Type 53s. :D
I am looking for a Chiang Kai-Shek model Mausers It the Chinese copy of the German Standard K98.

Is the "24" on the receiver ring their model number? When did their dating system start?

Jim

Gunny great post, I picked one up today and was about to post a thread on it until I saw this. Do you still have the date info or the email to the guy you got it from. If so Id like to get my hands on the info.
