Im currently trying to find out some info on my brothers chinese mauser and was hoping to find out if they were ever imported or brought back as war prizes, the one he has is a 1938 hanyang arsenal commision 88 mauser and has no import marks on it anywhere but does have some German made and stamped parts. so basically im just trying to get any info at all about these rifles for him, we were both intrigued when we took the stock off and it was full of dried blood and sand, so again any info about these rifles helps.

Imported as surplus for many years, small batch here and there.
Bring backs also came in from Korea and Viet Nam wars.
Germans supplied replacement and spare parts so finding some on a Chinese made weapon would not come as suprising.

I wouldn't look too hard into the blood and sand thing.

I once owned an M1 Garand with a set of teeth marks complete with broken bits of teeth still embedded in the comb of the stock.

Here is some general information on the rifle. Note: it isn't a Mauser rifle.<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanyang_88>

The Chinese warlords bought tooling and rights to copy the German Commission Rifle of 1888, and made tons of 'em. Imported in the eighties when the Chinese military was dumping training rifles from village militias, souvenir'ed from WW2 CBI, Vietnam, and Korea. Generally not regarded as safe to shoot due to a wide variation in manufacture quality and condition, as well as variable bore diameter measurements.

Neat pieces.
