Hello,

I am looking to purchase a 9mm carry piece,
I currently have a 4"1911 that i carry as well as an LCP
I am looking to get a compact/subcompact safety less handgun.
Although i LOVE my 1911, i think the amount of safety it has and the possibility it not going BANG the one time i need it to, I want to get something that has no "safety"

so can you guys give me some ideas.. i am looking to spend anywhere from $500-$800

Names would be Glock, Springfield, SIG. I like the sig.. so if you know lots about them please help out...

Thanks guys,

Well, honestly, they all have safeties - drop safety, firing pin blocks, tirgger safety....

Do you want a DA/SA with a decocker, a DAO, a consistent pull, trigger safety like a Glock?

Personally, I like DA/SA pistols with a hammer and a decocker (have a SIG P226, FNP-45 and a CZ P-01), and I am quite comfortable with the whole DA-first shot transition to SA follow up shots. Tomorrow I plan on picking up a Walther P99, which while striker fired, has the same sort of action as a DA/SA and has a decocker (on the slide).

For carry, the CZ P-01 or PCR are nice (DA/SA with decocker, plus firing pin block safety). SIG P229 is also excellent or the P239 or P2022 (SIG's polymer 9mm). The Walther P99 is about the size of a Glock 19, so would work fine for carry too.

You've got tons of choices.

with no safety there is also a chance you will shoot yourself with it... I'll keep my 1911...

This line tells me you most likely have an operator issue, not an equipment issue. I recommend you keep your 1911, and invest in a good practical pistol shooting course with the money saved by not buying a new gun. You'll thank me in the long run - training, training, training is what matters in the end.

XD for me please, not bashing Glocks in any aspect but they don't fit my hand. I prefer the XD 45 as it fills my hand better than the 9 which is just a little slimmer, but I still like it.

That's an ignorant/general statement to make. The 1911 has more moving intricate safetey items that can and DO malfunction. I want a non revolver option that has less parts to fail.

Sig P6/225, slim single stack 9mm, with DA/SA action, no safety but a heavy DA pull that feels like a revolver. This has a hammer, which is very nice to have as the hammer moving will immeditely tell you that there is a problem when holstering or drawing. You can 'ride the hammer' down into the holster, knowing that the weapon is inserted into the holster completely, while also being able to tell if anything is pressing on the trigger.

Kahr K40 for summer. CZ P-06 for fall/winter.

These are the .40 cal versions, but they have 9's available in both and I like both guns for different reasons. That being said if I had my choice I would carry the CZ year round if I realistically could. The Kahr is small and I lose half of the rounds of the CZ, but everything has a trade off.

Some DA pistols with manual safeties like the metal-frame S&Ws and Berettas can be carried with the safety off, only using it for a decocker and pushing it back up to make the gun ready for use. This may expand your options a bit. :)

The S&W M&P series does not really have a safety, unless you get one as an add on option. It does have a "magazine safety" which prevents it from firing without the mag in but I don't know why you'd ever do that anyway. You can get models without the mag safety if you want though. I considered an XD before I bought this one, but the fact that springfield just took an existing croatian pistol, rebadged it, hyped it, and marked up its price turned me off. At least the smith is US made. Glock would be a good choice too.

The XD 45 fits me better than the Glock 21 or 21SF, but in 9mm I prefer the Glock 17 or 19 to the XD 9...funky.
