I just picked up a used Mossberg Silver Reserve II. The gun came with 4 choke tubes that are only identified by grooves in them. I could of course assume that 1 groove is going to be tighter than 3 grooves, but we all know what assuming does. If anybody knows how to read them I would appreciate the help.

MOSSBERG SILVER AND ONYX RESERVE (INTERNATIONAL) FLUSH NOTCH CODES

Choke Type Identification (Notchesd)
Full Choke: I notch
Improved Modified: II notches
Modified: III notches
Improved Cylinder: IIII notches

With that information, I would buy one of those cheap pouches from wal mart to store them in, and write on the pouch in a sharpy this elusive "Mossberg code" lol.

Email Mossberg and ask for a manual... right in there. Their customer service is pretty good... as they just fixed my similar new shotgun (wood was chipped on the forend, and the top ejector would lock up the action).

I just saw it as lower the number, tighter the choke... more "I"s mean more space inside the tube. And by that, "wider" pattern.

Sorry, but don't see it as that big of a deal to remember... let alone, write it down. But to each their own.
