My favorite thing is watching folks who have never participated in anything like the FATS yelling and screaming, moving to cover or not doing anything. You forget real quick it is not for real. Great training.

FATS = Fire Arms Training Systems (now owned by Meggitt Training Systems.)

FATS is a life-sized interactive firearms and reaction simulations system for military, police and security personnel. My wife and I spent 30 minutes with a FATS simulation with one of the company's techs down in Georgia (the company's home) and it was a hoot!

The system we used had a Glock rigged up with an air hose to simulate recoil and a laser in the barrel. On a screen in front of us the system projected video of people in various situations (break-in in progress in your garage, deranged sister-in-law threatening a child, thug stealing a car, etc.) and you have make shoot/don't shoot decisions. I got most of them "right" and only got killed twice :> but my wife blew away a guy who was only stealing her truck! (She wasn't in it).

Loads of fun and it will make you think - which is what it's for.

To be fair, the system we used was probably a 2001 vintage so I am sure they have come a long way plus offer a wide range of options.
