Christmas "range pass" (wife's gonna get to shoot soon..)

Today is, of course, Christmas Day, and I'm at work (EMS unit.) I shared Christmas morning with my wife and daughter via Skype, and she told me there was a card for me in my duty bag, which was out in the rig.

So, after the chat, I went out to find a Russian Christmas card (New Year, actually, since Russians celebrate NYE the way we do Christmas, and my wife is Russian.) In it, she had inserted a "coupon" that read "good for a trip to the range."

She's not a shooter, and has only on occasion even mentioned guns, but she is aware of and supportive of my hobby. Also, this past summer, one of her other Russian friends was introduced to shooting by her husband, and raved about it to my wife (as did the friend's daughter, also shooting for the first time that day.)

I texted my wife back upon seeing the card, and asked her if the "pass" might be "good for two." She wrote me back saying "you can take me. (A friend) can watch (our daughter").

I'm pretty happy about this, and looking forward to it. Probably next Thursday (January 02.) I'll make it all about her, having her shoot as much or as little as she wants, and only what she wants. She's quite petite, with tiny fingers and pencil-thin wrists. But, I have a nice little assortment of .22 pistols (and finally some ammo for them!) and a couple of centerfire guns that should be fine as well.

Just sharing. Always nice to hear when you all get your ladies on board, or at least to try it out.

Yes, Fremmer, I have a nice assortment of rimfire pistols and a Tapco/Ruger 10/22 that will be the primary guns of the session.

I believe it is "Spasiba".
But everything I know about speaking Russian was learned from my peripheral participitation (flying P-3s) in the Cold War and reading Tom Clancy novels.

Ignition Override and orionengnr, you are both correct.

It is pronounced "spasiba", but typically transliterated as "spasibo". (Transliteration is using the letters of one language's alphabet to spell a word in a different one.)

In Russian, the letter "O" has the sound of the same letter in "pot" when in a stressed syllable, and the sound of the letter "A" as in "soda" when in an unstressed syllable.

But, yes, she's a treasure, knows the act is appreciated, and knows I'm excited about the trip, likely to take place next week (02 January.) She's not as excited, but I certainly appreciate that she's willing to try this.
