"For his newest work, Gehrt and colleagues fitted six Chicago coyotes with GPS collars and four with Crittercams in 2013 and 2014—the first time either technology was used on urban coyotes.

Gehrt estimates there are about 2,000 coyotes living in metropolitan Chicago, home to about nine million people."

Coyotes have been running through my neighborhood for decades. We are pretty close to a creek that runs through the city. We here of family pets being lunch from time to time.

I have seen coyotes inside the 635 loop around Dallas. You don't move them out just because you moved in to their home.

Same goes for Bears in CO at my Sisters house.

My Father took this photo of a family of bobcats on his back fence less than 3 miles from north Dallas tollway.

They took them all out (not my Dad the HOA) and rabbits run the subdivision now, guess they just devour all of their plants and not any pets.

'Yotes are very adaptive. One reason their populations are still so stable and actually growing in many areas where human encroachment has eliminated most all other wildlife. In large metro areas, between the rats, dumpsters and small pets, cities are like an all you cat eat buffet to them.

Cities are the one place they don get shot at. Well at least in my town it's illegal to shoot at them. I hear Chicago is basically one giant shooting range.

I saw the biggest coyote I've ever seen in my neighborhood 2 weeks ago.

I would have believed them if they'd said 2000 coyotes in LA. I know theyre pretty thick there. But Chicago? That is kInd of surprising

My front yard. They come through here all the time. Not sure why the coyote pic isn't coming up.

The other problem is that they become emboldened. Here we have a problem that they will come out during the day around people. In a recent newspaper article they even cited a home owner who had one that would look in through the front storm door for her little dog.

Ian Tyson's Coyote song is still one of my favorites. :)

"The coyote is a survivor,
I reckon he's got to be;
He lives in the snow at forty below,
And Malibu-by-the-sea..."

I see them quite often on the multi-use trails (Bike Path) here. They behave much like stray dogs and just get off path as people approach.

A couple winters ago I saw a coyote cross the street and pass between 2 houses to a wooded area in Clearwater Florida. Also, here in PA a coyote jumped a lawn fence, ran past children and grabbed a chicken. We've had several killed that weighed more than 60 lbs.

A family of bobcats on his back fence is unusual. Wiley living in town is not. He's everywhere there's food. Cats and small dogs disappear regularly around London. Mind you, my old cat's(deceased) sister and the runt, is the toughest cat on the Planet. Little thing has been living mostly outside in a 'bushy' area of London for 14 years. Not a mark on her either.
"...Not sure why the coyote pic..." Scared off by the gato.
