Civil War Competition shooting

Two hours ain't much driving for a high grade black powder experience😁

Seriously, this is about the only way you'll get to have a taste of what we do on a regular basis. Many other competitions will allow walkons, but we don't. You have to be a member of the N-SSA and that's because of what we do. We shoot as teams and use a very wide range of arms including artillery. You can't chance John Reenactor or Frank Hunter showing up and know their guns are safe and they are safe. Put cannons into that mix and it can become an insurance nightmare so we're a "members only" kind of thing but that doesn't mean you can't come to this and get a taste. But I'll tell you now, it's very, very addictive.

I drove a 98 Silverado with almost 260,000 miles on it about 9 hours to Kentucky and back. I was nervous the whole way but I made it.
Makes me feel better. Only thing is my odometer doesn't have the 100,000 place it only goes to 99,000. It currently is at 76,000 but I'm guessing that is at least 176K of not 276K maybe 376K. It's got the inline 6 cylinder so I think I'll be fine. Might rent a car I'm going no matter what

I would go to the match in Winchester, Virginia, pickup the shot bullets and sell them to Yankee tourists for a Quarter. ;)

My "low mileage" truck has 220k. My other work truck has 510k. They're both Toyota.

Only time I've ever been to VA was in Bristol last year to check out the casino. It sucks. But the wife and I had a good time in the antique stores. Most of which had at least some civil war memorabilia
You would definitely find good War Between the States memorabilia, because most of war on the east coast was fought there.

I escaped from the Blue Ridge Mountains almost 50 years ago. :)

Escaped?! I'm holding on to this piece of ground for the rest of my life. Idk why anyone would want to leave these pretty green hills

There are a number of reasons why the War still fascinates people. It was the first "modern" war. In NC, not all the state held for the Confederacy, although it supplied the most troops of any state to the Confederate army. The Blue Ridge area was very divided and probably could be said to be "pro Union". The War in the Blue Ridge was like "Bleeding Kansas" with neighbor on neighbor settling old scores and out right lawlessness.

Ever heard of "bloody Madison" confederate renegades massacred the people of Madison County
