Hi all,

I'm settling on what my summer project should be, and I am really liking the looks of the Swiss rifles, 96/11 through K31. I have heard recently that the 96/11s are capable of delivering exceptional accuracy, and like the K31s, they intrigue me. Anyway, eventually I would like an optic on whichever rifle, and I was wondering if the St. Marie style scope mount would work on the 96/11 as well (if it works at all) as it does on the K31. Are there reciever geometry differences that make this impossible? I have heard great things about the rifle, and high praises for the mount, and I would like to get them together.

Thanks for the help,

-Chris

Also, post script- Simpsons Ltd. has many 96/11s available right now, most all having "very good" bores, which are bested only by "excellent" ones. What can I expect out of these "VG" bores on the 96/11s as to accuracy compared to the "Excellent" bores on a K31? Are they still capable of comparable accuracy?

No the K-31 mount will only work for the 31. But keep looking. Graf and Sons or Brownells has or will have the newest SP mounts which will fit the 11s, 96s, or the 89s.Best

In addition to the St. Marie mount, there is also a Swiss-made mount that preceded it and on which it is based. I can only speak for the Swiss mount, which fit well enough on four different K-31's that re-zeroing was accomplished at 100yds. by firing a few shots, then correcting for the change in impact on the standard NRA target. Might have something to do with the tight tolerances the Swiss set for the K-31 receiver, too. Amazing for a clamp-on mount, in any event.

The K-31's I have shot have all exhibited "exceptional accuracy", the models 96/11 and 1911 have a reputation for being equally accurate, but I suspect they are mostly prized for the long barrels, which extend the sight radius and hang very well for offhand shooting as well. Given the choice, I would go with the K-31, which is much stronger, handier in any barrel length due to the short receiver, and has more useful accessories such as the scope mounts and diopter sights available.

Check out the Swiss Rifles Message Board for more information on these great rifles. Start out at

There are lots of opinions on scope mounts there.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for all of the advice and information. I really appreciate it, and am grateful that you were all so helpful and polite. On other forums, it can be difficult for people to be civil to one another for some reason. But not here!

Thanks again,

-Chris

Ed may have a Swiss made mount unknown to me, but for sure he is at least close to correct about another mount for the K-31. It fits only the K-31, is made in Germany(made in steel only) and cost a bit(lot) more than the SP(in aluminum or steel) made mount. Some years ago the German made EAW mount was well over $300. I've both and both are excellent. SwissRifles.Com is full of info. Come visit our gang. Best

lonniemike, I stand corrected. The mount I referred to is indeed the German EAW, though I paid less than $300 for it (I had this guy in Switzerland...)
Sorry for the mistake, but I am old now, and my memory not so good works...
