A recent thread brought up the well-accepted idea that the original military ball ammo load for the 1911/45 auto is a 230 grain bullet over about 5 grains of bullseye powder. (JMB wanted 200gr; Army brass wanted 230gr).

I've also heard that Jack O'Connor' classic load for 270 Winchester involves a 130 grain bullet and H4831. And in fact I haven't found a more accurate combo than this for my 270.

At the moment, I'm particularly interested in whether or not there is an "original" or tried and true recipe for 9mm (I'd guess a 124 grain bullet and some unobtainable/obsolete European powder, but I'd like to be wrong about that).

But what about other calibers? Especially those with a little bit of history behind them?

My research showed me originally the 9mm was loaded with a 125 gr truncated cone FMJ. I was not able to find much on the order of ballistics, but I believe the velocity was around 1,100 fps...

From what I have read the original 9mm ammo was made with a FMJ truncated conical shape 124gr bullet loaded on the hot side at just over 1,200fps. (I think that is it)

In 1903, the then new 9mm was shot by the US Army to compare with the 1000 test trial .30 Lugers.
There were two loads, the heavier one. 5.86 grains of Rottweil flake powder, gave 1095 fps in a 4 inch barrel, 1128 fps in a 4 3/4" barrel.
I have found a post that says the Germans went with the lighter load, 1033 fps 4 inch.
