When you guys are done shooting clays, do you police the landing area for unbroken clays? The guys I've been going with do this when we're all done, and we sometimes end up with more clays than we came with! I figure that it's the same as picking up used shells, if they don't care enough to pick them up or take them home then they're fair game.

On a side note, due to the heat wave in the NW, several of the clays had actually "melted" and deformed around the grass, it was pretty weird seeing the clays all droopy.

The new gun is a Maverick 88 with a 20" Vent-rib barrel and an IC choke. We put 125rds through it. It definitely showed me that I should rethink any mods I had considered. It also proved very reliable, we used 3 different factory loads, handloaded target loads, and had 3 different guys operating it and there were no flaws at all (but the 40 year old Wingmaster had some issues going into battery :D )

My friends and I own a launcher and we do look for our unbroken clays (even if their aren't many:D).

Sometimes you can even find ones with holes in them from the #7.5 or #8 shot we use. So close.

As a kid we used to scour the local skeet and trap ranges, load up on unbroken ones and take them over to the rifle range and shoot them up.

I think that if the people who left them there wanted them, they'd pick them up when they were done.

Just wait until your downrange picking up clays and someone opens up on that station. Doesn't seem bright.

Yup not to bright to be firing down range when there are people out in the field picking up clays....

At our club they won't re-use clays in the machine launchers so they are fair game for people who want to hand launch or plink with.

A good many of them will break when thrown. Still worth trying though.

My wife offered the grandkids a nickle apiece for picking up the unbroken clays a couple of years ago. I reminded her that they only cost a nickle apiece new.

Unless your local cub has something to the effect that allows you to go and pick them up, they should belong to the club for them to either reuse or dispose. wally world sells themcheap enough

Glad you are happy with your new gun, and that it performed well. I would expect little else from a pump. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't expect to ever need another pump. My Wingmaster Magnum has spoiled me, and will surely outlive me. Tell your friend to fix whatever is wrong with his. You cannot buy a better pump.
I hate to say it, but I wish you would send a little of that heat this way. My pool has been about useless since June unless I want to fight the blanket, or run the heater - and I don't.

It's not a safety concern to go out and pick them up at our range (not a huge area). Plus, we usully end up with a decent amount of clays when we're done gather them up (almost 200 this weekend)!

The problems with the Wingmaster were most likely caused by some bad crimps from our first batch of reloads. It only 'clicked' a few times, but it was fun to rib them about my cheapie outpreforming their wingmaster that day. I was really impressed by the accuracy of the 20" barrel too, it was breaking the clays just as well as their 30"(?) bbl

Our heat has left us for now, maybe it's on the way to you!

56 at night don't do much for a pool though. :cuss: Heck, I expect to sweat a little in July and August.
Back when I lived in Carolina, one morning at 4:30 AM in the pitch dark, we were towing the boat across the Trent River Bridge and the weather came on the radio. 98 degrees and 100% humidity. :barf: I will never forget that one.
