Just got a '68 Finn M39 "sneaker" today. The metal is very good but has a good bit of oil on it, and the trigger is crisp. But the Post War stock has some light scratches and a few nicks, not too bad but I want to clean up the wood some. The stock also seems to have an oily feel to it and just appears dirty. The grain underneath seems as though it will be quite nice with the dark swirls that are often seen on the Finns.
What is the best way to actually "clean" the surface of the wood that has become soiled somehow? Mineral Spririts will clean away the oil and such, but I'm looking for something to actually clean the wood, not a degreaser.
Any thoughts?
