I didn't see this thread on here so I thought I'd make one.

If you can post a before and after picture or just post a picture of your recently cleaned and shiny brass.

Also post how you cleaned it for example....
Rolling tumbler
SS Pins
Or
Soap and water

I hope this thread catches on because I like seeing how clean people can get their brass casing.

After! Clicky for biggy.

Tumbled for about an hour in a cheapy Frankford Arsenal tumbler with increasingly brownish media. Ran through my LnL to deprime and resize prior to tumbling; I figured that'd clean the primer pockets a bit, too.

Worked on some 9mm the other day. I have a Lyman tumbler, use walnut media with a mix of nu-finish car wax and a splash of mineral spirits.

First pic is of pre-tumble.

Second is of post tumble for one hour.

Third is of finished rounds, tumbled for 20 minutes before boxing.

I've got my Thumbler's Tumbler going right this minute, as soon as it finishes up I'll post some pictures. I use mostly corncob media, with just a touch of Midway Brass polish, and I get some pretty nice looking brass. I prefer the two tumbler model it comes with as I believe in separating the brass for reloading. Right now I've got Winchester in one and Remington in the other.

Woah, you tumble after loading? With what? Doesn't that affect the primer?

Below is the photos of the untumbled brass in the middle and some brass that I tumbled for about 1 1/2 hrs. on either side in a plastic baggy.

howiepa, there is a thread here somewhere that one of our awesome members posted a break down, or lack thereof on the powder. The primer needs a good sharp hit, not going to happen in a vibratory tumbler. Nearly all manufacturers tumble after loading too. I was worried a bit at first, but I have tumbled about 7,000 rounds without any mis-fires out of the 1k or so I have shot.

Edit to add, I wouldn't tumble loaded ammo in a rotary tumbler like the Thumlers

I do. Every time I load pistol rounds and have been doing it for years. Pistol only though, my tumbler will literally ruin the tip of a rifle bullet in short order so I have a different process for them.

Remember there is all that media in the drum cushioning the fall of the loaded rounds. It only takes 20 minutes of tumbling in a rotary tumbler after loading and the rounds come out looking like the Crown Jewells. The extra weight of the bullet seems to make them polish faster.

I don't have any pictures right now, I just finished tiling my shower so I don't have any time to take any. Sorry.

A normal tumble, plus cleaning primer pockets with a K&M PP uniformer.

Ones I forgot about and tumbled around 26 hours.

Re media and ?polish?.

Have tried/used NuFinish, LemiShine, Dillon brass polish, etc...

Have settled on Turtle Wax Chrome and metal polish. Leaves a very slight
protective/lubricative finish, contains very fine abrasive to really SHINE, is very inexpensive, and has no ammonia.

As with all these "better" types of polish, it builds up in your media over time, leaving an improved residual and requires less additive each tumble.

I use walnut and dirty pickup range brass looks new in 45 mins in a vibratory tumbler.

Jcinnb, that is some nice looking brass. I just got my bullseye SS pins and harbor freight rotary tumbler today. My first batch should be out at around 2am. I have my alarm set. :)

SS pins
Line shine
Harbor Freight with water and dawn

My second container was clean but not as shiny so I stuck it back in and put more soap.

When cleaning with water using the NRA formula does lemishine do anything that a splash of vinegar won't?

My first run with my STM rig last year. I didn't even dry them before I took these shots:

I've changed the formula from Dawn to Armor All car wash with wax, but still only use a 1/4 tsp of Lemishine.

One load (2000+/- 45 acp cases) out of my homemade wet tumbler.

Took 2.5 beers to not only dry but become too hot to hold, in the sun of a Texas summer.
