I was just wondering if anyone does more than a bore/cylinder/surface cleaning of there revolver after they shoot them? Do you ever strip it down and do a detailed cleaning inside after X number of rounds, ect?

thanks

Well, since you asked...yes, I do. I've got Colt, S&W and Ruger revolvers, and after about every 500 rounds, I'll completely detail strip the gun (disassemble cylinder/yoke, lockwork, etc.), and lay all the pieces out on a clean rag for closeup inspection and cleaning of each part. I lube the interior of the frame, and also each part as I reinstall them...not heavily, but with a thin coating of oil.

I'm mechanically inclined, so I'm comfortable with doing this. I apply the same routine to my semis after about 300 rounds or so...they get cruddier in more places than revolvers. This is why it'll take me 3 hours to clean a gun sometimes, but my guns look like new, except for the appearance of normal wear marks, and I know the condition of each and every part in them.

If you're not comfortable with going this far, a normal field strip should be OK. I'm a nutcase, I can't sleep at night if I think I might've missed a speck of soot in a place I can't see it. ;)
