I'm wondering if you guys clean your 17s more frequently than your .22s. If heard the 17s shoot dirtier than .22. I've noticed my Anschutz 17HMR and 17Mach2 shoot better clean. I clean them about every 50-100 rounds; a good bore scrub. My .22s seem to shoot well almost without the bore being cleaned....I clean them anyway, but the accuracy rarely changes. Just wondering.

I wipe the exterior of EVERY gun I own down with wax after every shooting session to prevent rust. 22 rimfire gets the bore cleaned when accuracy drops off. Anything that shoots a jacketed bullet gets the bore cleaned and an oily patch run thru it to prevent rust after every session. This procedure seems to work as I haven't had a firearm rust problem in so long I can't remember the last time it happened.

I spray brake cleaner on a bore snake and rip it through a few times when accuracy starts to go South.

On my .17 I cleaned every 1-200rnds, as that's where groups started opening up. I also found that if I just pulled a dry bore snake thru every box or so I could get a bit more out of it before a cleaning.

My .22s get a couple passes with a clp soaked bore snake after each trip, just to remove some powder fouling and deposit the clp in the bore.
