I just tried using my bore guide in my savage mk2 and it wouldn't fit. i tried not scratching the bore with the rod but I did. Any tips for this? guide only slides on 1/4 the way and hits something above the trigger.

With cleaning patches do you guys prefer cotton or the normal ones?

Cleaning

I have a 22 caliber plastic coated cleaning rod, no bore guide. Cotton works for me from old white underwear. DeweyParkerHaleStyleRifleCleaningJAG.jpg I worry more about the muzzle crown. I stop before the jag exits the muzzle, pulling it back. A brush has to exit.

Is it a rimfire boreguide? One guide i gad was a larger type and didnt fit in my smaller guns

Cotton patches are what I've always preferred. Sure doesn't mean everyone should prefer them though.

Sounds like you may have the wrong bore guide for your model, or something else is wrong? I'd double check on that. ;)

You could always insert your coated rod in "empty" then pull it back if you're concerned that you may be "scratching" the barrel.

Damons saying that he, and a number of others i might add, dont belive its necessary to clean 22lr barrels. My opinion is to clean infrequently, but i also know people who never clean them, and guys that clean them every outting......premise being 22lr barrels are relatively soft compared to higher pressure cartridges, so EXCESSIVE cleaning can cause accelerated ware.
