Excited about my first purchase, and wondering what all I need to do before using it. I was planning on stripping it down and cleaning it using Break Free and the cleaning kit I bought, then oiling with Rem Oil. It seems a little oily right now, guessing it's the rust preventative and it shouldn't be quite as oily after I'm done?

My Mossberg 835 had a rust preventative in the bore, a bronze brush dipped in Hoppes #9 worked a while and about 6 cotton patches soaked in solvent got all the gunk out (was the color of dark honey). Good luck!

What is the clamp on the longer barrel?

Field strip, hit the preservative with the solvent of your choice (brake cleaner works well),
don't forget to do the choke tubes and the barrel threads; then relube/regrease as per the owner's manual

The clamp is just what the extra barrel was attached with. I have Break Free Powder Blast gun cleaner, should that work well?

Yep, ANY good solvent will do the job followed by ANY good lube and grease.

Choke tubes should get grease on the threads, not only for rust prevention, but also for keeping them snug in the barrel. RemOil or similar works well for wiping things down.

Ah, so I should probably pick up a lube/grease in addition to Rem Oil? Any recommendations? Heading out to buy some silicone gun sleaves for the gun and extra barrel tomorrow so would be a good time to pick it up.

I have an old tube of thick Hoppe's grease I use for choke tubes; otherwise I use Remoil, CLP, Hoppe's, Shooter's Choice , etc. (depends on what I reach into my cleaning tote and grab - they all work good in that regard). If you are looking for long-term storage protection, Boeshield, RIG grease or similar is the ticket.
