Cleaning up spilled powder

Not a fan of "Myth Busters" but caught a rerun (?) of the crew trying to blow up vacuum cleaners by sucking up an entire pound of powder. No joy. The powder seemed to be of a very course granulation, at least in the close ups of them pouring it on the rug. Named blocked out but it was a Goex container. Never spilled a pound but have dropped a full charge on the bench and am pretty sure the floor around the area has powder on it. Just how would one clean up spilled powder otherwise, a wet rag I suppose.

I now feel better about vacuuming the area around the bench.

BTW they did blow up the vacs intentionally and a pound of powder made an awesome fire ball.

Never spilled that much but if on my rug, I just used my ex-wife's now girlfriend's vacuum cleaner.

But I edited my previous post to include the word 'Ex' but to clarify further they're two different girls!!!

If you use a vacuum, toss the contents out first before vacuuming up the powder. Then after you clean up the spilled powder, toss the powder into your garden. The nitrates are good for fertilizing the soil.

Small amounts of powder can be picked up with a strip of masking tape or one of those sticky lint roller thingies you use on your clothes. I vacuum the carpet in my reloading room and have never had a problem.

I use a battery powered, hand held dust devil vac.

My LCT has started to spew flakes of powder pretty regularly, even after replacing the wipe.

No vacuum in the world will get ALL the powder out of a rug. And at least one person on another forum has had an ignition source of some sort fall onto the rug which then began flaring up and sparking amazingly well. It wasn't the carpet but the powder that had gotten down into the weave. He managed to grab a corner and get it to hell out of the house. But it was an interesting jaunt to the doorway I'm sure.

So all in all I'm a fan of smooth tight joint style flooring. Even to the point that if I were loading in a carpeted room that I'd get something to lay over the carpet that lets me have a smooth floor. And with a smooth floor we're just looking at a broom and dust pan.

I've been making my own BP. You otta see the mess from just making the charcoal! Then there's the ball mill - pic comm'n - it has left over wood, roller bearings, cut rods and motors that never got cleaned up. Then the molds that were created to cast the 1" lead balls for the mill... Well I was just to charged up trying to cast the molds to clean up all the mold mistakes. Got the balls cast but that required cleaning up a bunch of wheel weights and that left a bit of a mess. Then I dug that big hole in the yard to place the ball mill and left the shovel and pile of dirt out there. Not to mention the milling process ain't exactly as clean as rocket surgery. By the time you've got your granulation and drying down you can't really find the garage. So a little spill on the carpet... I'm just glad I married my girlfriend! And yeah, I'm the guy who shot his cannon "at" his house! PS, my wife and girlfriend agree with Gary that it's best to help grow your tomattos
