Clogging The Bullet's Hollowpoint Stops Expansion. Problem Solved???

158 grain lswchp was designed in the 1930s? yet it costs LESS then the newest copper plated ammo. and works.

I was reading an article today about that very thing. The 95 grain 9mm Powerball is an excellent round, or the Hornaday critical defense, "red tip". the guy who wrote the piece was a lawman of many years and knew much about expansion and hollow point failures. Most were due to the lessening of the potency of the 9mm round itself. to what was a +p+ "power", round originally. Which was more powerful than what we use today.

Since I carry an 1851 Colt Navy revolver in .36 caliber and use round ball, it essentially acts like FMJ but can expand since it is soft lead. Very effective, even today.

Preparedness, mindset, the ability to place a shot correctly, under stress, in time.

Everything else is meaningless if you don't do those things. I never lose a minute of sleep or worry about whether the bullet is going to expand for sure. Some Pros only carry ball, because they value function above all else. I have no argument with them.

Use any proven defense round, or plain old ball ammo, as long as it feeds 100% in your gun, and worry about the other things.

+1. 230 gr. ball has been stopping bad guys for a very long time if it is placed it where it needs to go. If you cannot then it really doesn't matter.

I also carried ball ammo for 25 years in a 9mm auto. And lead hollowpoints in a revolver, or jacketed lead, semi jacketed lead, worked well for most things.

If expansion of HP is a concern during the winter, wouldn't it be just as wise to keep the HP ammo all year long? If it doesn't expand its the same as ball and if it expands at all its going to be better than ball, right? YMMV just sayin'!

In 230 RNs defense, dont ya think a fmj ball would penetrate more than a clogged JHP? I tend to think so, even if just a bit more penetration. I highly doubt they would perform exactly alike.

It's much more aerodynamic, right? Especially with no clump of denim crammed in the nose to slow it down..
