CMMG Sorry! (sorry i have already posted this but the title wasnt very good so ill try it like this) I was looking at CMMG for my first AR-15, I would like a full length 5.56 barrel, I have no practical need for anything shorter and I like the extra velocity. I was thinking 1/7 twist so I could shoot heavier but I would also like to plink cheaper stuff. Does anyone have experience with CMMG? And what lowers fit well with a CMMG upper? Also I saw a few full-length rifles with CAR and mid-length gas systems, how does a shorter gas system help? Thanks for the help

a shorter gas system will only help if you have a shorter barrel. here's the guidelines:
carbine gas for 16" or a bit less, midlength for 16-18", and rifle length for 20". as for CMMG, I have their 18" midlength rifle and couldn't be happier. finish is perfect, shoots FAR more accurately than I can, and everything fits and runs perfectly. I've only gotten about a thousand rounds out the pipe so far, but not one malfunction of any kind. my barrel is 1:8" and loves 75gr match bullets. 1:7" will be fine too. good luck!

If you get a 20 inch rifle length, a longer rifle gas system length will work better. It'll be softer on recoil and less harsh on parts.

I have a 16 inch CMMG medium contour barrel with mid length gas. It shoots great. Their customer service does not have a great reputation, but their product is very nice.

I have the 1/7 and can shoot 55 grain all day long. It's good for pop cans at 100 yards off hand out of a 16 inch barrel. If I had a scope and a free float I could probably get accuracy down to an inch or two at 100 yards.

One Happy CMMG owner here :D

My CMMG M4 shoot all kind of 5.56/223 ammo that you think of, expecially wolf, it's a 1/7 so you can use heavier bullets but it shoot 55gr very accurate like others 1/9 that i have shot about 2 moas with iron-sight at 100 yards.

any lower will fit a CMMG upper, i wound recommend a CMMG lower ot match the fit and finish, but i use a Spike's Tactical Lower (i love it) they match perfect and there is no woobles at all, (a good tight fit) i also used a CMMG LPK to go with the lower.

I have four CMMG barrels, in both rifle and 16" middie form. All are 1:7" twist.

They all shoot very accurately with both my 75gr OTM ammo as well as standard M193/55gr ammo.

I think very highly of the CMMG componentry.

The problem with CMMG is that demand is exceeding personel. Its just a handful of folks building lots of rifles and getting them out the door. Unfortunately customer service and delivery times suffer.

They make a great product IMO, and if you do have a problem, they will make it right, maybe later rather than sooner.

Mine runs great. I havent shot anything lighter than 55gr pills through it though (except for some 36gr? rimfire, which didnt shoot very well), but its still shoots better than I do. It does prefer the 75 and 77gr stuff, but does pretty well with 55 grain depending on how well I do my part.
