I sent in an order for my first Garand on the 12th of November. (I remember because it was the day after Veteran's Day.) This is the first time that I have ever purchase something from CMP. Last week I got an e-mail news letter from CMP, but have not received any specific confirmation of the order. The GCA application had a space to provide an e-mail address, would they have provided it to CMP, or would the newsletter be a sign that CMP received my application?

I guess that I'm paranoid-the order form only has almost all of the information that you would need to steel someones identity.

from the CMP web site:

SINCE OCTOBER 2008, WE HAVE BEEN OVERWHELMED WITH ORDERS FOR ALL PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY RIFLES AND AMMUNITION. AS A RESULT, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PREDICT DELIVERIES FOR ANY OF THE ITEMS THAT CMP SELLS. PLEASE ALLOW A MINIMUM OF 90-100 DAYS FOR ORDERS TO SHIP. ORDERS ARE BEING PROCESSED IN THE SEQUENCE THEY WERE RECEIVED. DUE TO THE HIGH CALL VOLUME, YOU MAY EXPERIENCE LONG DELAYS WHEN TRYING TO REACH CMP BY TELEPHONE. WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO NOT CALL, BUT TO SEND AN EMAIL WITH QUESTIONS TO [email protected]. IF THE QUESTIONS ARE ABOUT AN EXISTING ORDER, PLEASE ENTER THE ORDER NUMBER (IF KNOWN) IN THE SUBJECT LINE TO EXPEDITE RESPONSES.

You can also check the status of your order on their website.

Waiting for the rifle(s) is hard but very worth it :)

Did their large surge in orders begin months before the pres. election, or mostly after it?

Is the demand still increasing or has it stabilized, allowing them to gradually catch up with the huge number of back-orders?

The guy at the CMP store told me that when Obama was running (before election) people came in and bought pick up truck loads of ammo in anticipation of not being able to get any after he was in office. Luckly Obama hasnt accomplished any thing that he said he would.

Just be patient. It's like planting a seed - just got to let it grow. I just received my 2nd service grade Garand a few weeks ago. Ordered it the end of September and received it less than two months later. You have to wait a bit for the "received" email to show up. Might be a few weeks. As long as you met all their requirements you should be in good shape. I ordered my first one last spring and that took about 4 months to show up - seemed like an eternity at the time.

I received a service grade Garand from CMP about two weeks ago. The time from receiving the first email to having it in my hands was only 7 weeks. I got my ammo in only 5 weeks. That was way quicker than the original time estimate.

Things are stabilizing and orders recieved are slowing compared to a year ago. Still you can expect a 60-90 day wait. As others have said "worth the wait" You will not find a Garand at a better price or get better service anywhere on the planet.

Good news: Someone has opened your app and punched in your info. That's why you got the sale information.

Bad news: it's not the "We got your order, now leave us alone" email that says you're officially in the system. You'll get that in another couple weeks. It will have a password that you use to log onto the e-store to check the status of your order.

Good news: Orders are processing MUCH faster these days. I suspect a big part of it is that ammo is all gone, so 100% employee effort is in processing and shipping rifles.

Bad News: you are still a month, probably 6 weeks, out. It goes by fast. I placed my order on August 28. I received my "Don't bother us" email around 9/10 and then my orders were sent to the e-store a week or so later. Ammo came early October and I recieved my rifle a couple days before Veteran's Day. Start-to-finish, 2 1/2 months. Considering at the time I placed my order the "official word" was 120+ days, I'm not complaining one iota.
