I am looking into buying a cmp carbine and I have a few general quetsions for people that have recieved rifles/ammo from cmp. If you live in California do you have to have a rifle sent to an FFL or is it sent directly to me? I know I have to sign for the package but I tend to work odd hours due to the fact that i am a leo, can i arrange with fed ex to pick it up at one of the distribuition centers? And i still have to belong to a shooting club to meet one of the requirements correct, or does my job meet the requirement?

And when would i expect cmp to bill my cc? i know i should expect a 6 month wait on the rifle will the ammo arrive in a diffrent shipment?

sorry for the repeat nature of this email as im sure its been discussed in great length before. But thanks for the help.

ammo is shipped separate from rifles, and you LEO job should satisfy the club requirement. I don't know how things work with California laws and CMP

You need...
1. Proof of citizenship....birth certificate...
2. Proof of age...DL
3. Membership in CMP affiliated org. proof like a card
4. Markmenship.....LEO, military....

I think they don't bill your cc until its about ready to ship....an they should ship to where you want it....but in CA......?

On 3. Membership will include Law inforcment like, FOP, NAPO, NSA.
so your LEO job will help out in 2 catagories.

I do not believe CA state law prohibits an individual from receiving a CMP rifle but you can check with CMP as I'm sure they know. Some counties/cities in CA prohibit ammo deliveries (like Los Angeles) but this is not statewide. But the CMP is out of Carbine ammo anyway so this is not an issue at the moment.

My order was officially received 4/1 and was posted as in process on 7/7. The order stated that my card had not been charged but according to my statement in was charged on that date. Rifle was shipped Fed-Ex (and I had to go to the Fed-Ex center to PU as I was not home to sign for delivery) and I got it on 7/22.

Here is what you'll be getting.

You can pick it up at FEDEX easier to do beforehand when you get your tracking number (which will be the day it ships). Unless you agency has some regulation prohibiting it you can have them ship it to your work address. Always be someone there to sign for it won't there?

I signed for my neighbors at the local fedex. They were not even aware it was a firearm. Just had to have a signature, just handed it over, when I said oh its jim's rifle the girl about S&*^ a brick.

I have always found fedex to be great to work with when it comes to working out pickup or delivery special requests. Much better than ups or PO.

No problem in California. No need for an FFL 'cause they're Curio and Relic. I'm in Sacramento County outside the City Limits. Don't know if there are issues shipping to cities with ammo restrictions like Sacramento. Just got a Special Grade Garand and an ordinary Carbine. Sweet. I've fallen head over heels for the Garand. My first one.

Separate deliveries for ammo, the two guns came the same day, they didn't charge the card until they shipped, signature required but UPS and FedEx will both keep packages at the shipping facility for you to pick up.

I sent a copy of my CRPA card with the order and for marksmanship activity my local range signed that they have seen me shooting regularly and with proper safety.

Ordered the end of March, delivered the beginning of July. Still waiting for the .30 carbine ammo and the Aguila .22LR.

Real nice folks at CMP. They're overwhelmed with orders right about now and don't have much time for answering the phone. E-Mail them with any questions and they'll get back to you in a couple of days. The CMP site has a forum with lots of info on how far behind they are in processing orders.

Order now and you might have it in time to put under the Christmas tree!

Ping!

But the CMP is out of Carbine ammo anyway

But you might as well get on the backorder list.

I ordered my years ration of M2 ball on April 14, along with some carbine ammo. (The M2 ball ammo came July 23. )

Now Jeremy from shipping at the CMP called me a few days previous, with a question about my ammo order. I went ahead and asked if he could guess how much longer on my carbine ammo order (also placed April 14).

He said they had just shipped about 75 orders for carbine ammo. Then he went to ask "the Boss Lady" about my order. She told him I probably have another "30 to 60 days" on my order.

So get yourself on the waiting list. Eventually you'll get to the top, and receive your ammo.

They'll bill your card just before they ship, so that unfortunately won't be too soon.

I believe the CMP has some sort of special exemption to the 1968 Gun Control Act, which allows them to ship rifles to your door. The carbines ship without a magazine, so Californians won't have a problem with those scary G.I. 15 rounders. You'll just have to get some aftermarket 10-rounders.
