On or about August 20, I placed an order with the CMP for a service grade Garand and two spam cans of the Greek ammo. The website at the time was giving something like a 180 day wait time for ammo. On 9/03 I received the official email from the CMP saying my order was received.

Today - surprise! - I got an email from FedEx on behalf of CMP that one of my cans has been shipped and should be here in the next couple days.

Is this a sign that things are breaking loose and my Garand might arrive before 2010? Anyone have any info? Can I start to get a little excited, or is this just a tease? I just checked - the sales home page says 90-100 days wait time (they will beat that by almost 60 days for the ammo!) and still 180 on the rifle.

About a month ago I read that CMP was slowly catching up an might be caught up by end of Oct. ...maybe...I believe you will recieve your Garand very soon, they should contact you before shipping the Garand..I think..?...I have never ordered, always been
able to drive over to the N.Store...let us know when you get it!!!

I was told by one of the ladies at the Alabama location that my order placed 15 days ago (2 days before the special carbine release) would probably be here in less than 60 days total.

I think one of the reasons order waiting times are down is because they're basically out of ammo, and the most recent big Carbine rush is winding down.

However CMP just received something like 18,000 Garands and are sorting, cleaning, and grading them now. According to guys who have seen them they're beautiful. Dunno if there's more ammo on the horizon.

I imagine things will get very busy again.

Anyone who's been putting off getting a Garand, get the CMP order forms and get your paperwork in order now, and keep checking the CMP website:

http://www.odcmp.com/

It's not that difficult to do and you will not regret it.

...and got mixed messages.

I ordered three items: two spam cans of ammo; one Garand.

My "pending orders" show the ammo was shipped and due any day now. In the notes, it says the Garand is backordered and will be shipped when it is available.

My pending order shows the Garand as "open." It doesn't say anything about being backordered. In fact, at the top of the order form it says, "thank you for your order - you should receive your order within 30 days of your order date." That means - if this is right - I could get the Garand any day now!!!

OK...can't help it...starting to get excited...

Heard they thought they would have ammo well into 2010, after they bought 78 million rounds less than 2 yrs. ago. Didn't make it even after they restricted 10 cans per yr. per customer. Heard alot of those thousands of Garands they just got have never been fired an still packed in excellent condition, want one of those? $3500.00....maybe I'll stick with fixing up the Field Grades.....

CMP should be faster now on shipping....they aren't taking any new orders for ammo.

They be out! 65million rounds of .06.........sitting in homes now.;)

So is that just it for ammo from the CMP? Are they now just sellers of Garands? No more ammo?

I know they are out of ammo right now. What I was asking was is that it for the CMP and selling surplus ammo... like for good. Will they purchase surplus '06 sometime down the road or from here on out are they a rifle shop.

A good portion of the garands mentioned have been worked out and certain ones should be shipped soon . do not expect any ihc's as they were not to be had in the group but maybe one here or there.
as far as new ones yeah but you are looking at not alot of them. 154 came out of those pallets and they all were like 1953, 54 and 55 years. still had vapor tube and foil wrap. they will not be cheap. there might be more but that is all I know of.
ammunition for the garands is gone for now. and the only ammunition that is surplus 30-06 has to come from overseas so you can not just up and order more 30-06 from the 1960's or 70's.
but my personal opinion is this: If the dcm and cmp have sold like 1/4 million rifles over the years and 5.3 million some rifles were made I kinda lean toward more coming in and the supply not really running out anytime soon.
as far as ammunition I believe more will come in also.

Don't get too worried about them running out soon. The are supposed to have about 150,000 rifles on hand, 4-5 years worth.

O. Michaels is currently working on deals to get more surplus 30-06, and new production .30 carbine. They should have ammo news soon.

Check the CMP forums, there is a lot of information there, and the man in charge (Michaels) posts updates and answers questions regularly.

CMP thought that ammo was going to last 4-5 years, look what happened.

Those Garands are going to fly off the racks, just like the ammo.

Keep your powder dry!

Beelzy, What makes you think they will sell any faster than they are now?

The new, unfired ones will be out of most everyone's price range. They seem to be selling a great deal of carbines now, and less Garands. It's not like you can't buy a M1 from them right now. They have a good selection. It's just a 2 month or so wait. Which is normal.

The CMP did not anticipate the election of bho and his effect on the public.

I think the frenzy is over, as witnessed at the gun shows, the poor economy has trumped gun sales.

I've been waiting 3+months for a case of 30 carbine for them, but I can't really complain for another 2-3 months. :( I want my ammo! :cuss: Guns are little fun to have if you have nothing to feed them.
