I am planning on taking a trip to the CMP store South location within the next 2 months. Can someone give me an idea what to expect when I get there, after a 9 hour drive.

Do the stores sell everything that they list on the web site? Ammo, stocks, .22 rifles...?

How big are the crowds?

Are there limits on how many of an item you can buy?

They don't always have everything in store that is listed on the website.
Best bet is to check out www.thecmp.org/forums and click on the south store link. People tend to put up rough store inventory every few days. If nothing is posted like that, just post asking what they have or call them.
I've only shopped at the north store, but from what I read both stores are very helpful. It only makes sense because it must be the best job in the world, selling garands, carbines, and ammo to people everyday.

You can expect lots of helpful people, and people checking out rifles. I've been to the North Store a couple of times, and never had it be too crowded.

They will not have everything in stock that is listed on the web site. If you are looking for something special, you should ask on the CMP forums if it is available, or call. Triple check that you have all the right paperwork if you have never bought from the CMP before. Check again when you stop for gas.

Have an empty trunk for all the stuff to get home with you. (Or just mail, it will be cheaper anyways.)

No daily buying limit that I know of. AFIK, you can buy your whole limit for the year in one day.
