A few years ago the CMP started a vintage sniper match. The match is shot at 300 and 600 yards and uses rifles that were former pre-1952 (I believe) military sniper rifles. Reproductions are allowed and particularly with the glass, latitude is given for substitution of the old sniper scopes. I've been working on a repro USMC 1941 sniper rifle on the cheap.

Last year I acquired a high number Rock Island 1903 with a C-Stock that already had the scope mounting blocks on it. I got it for a song and it also came with a Redfield rear target sight and the bolt had been ground a bit for scope clearance.

When it arrived, I discovered it had a Sedgley barrel in very good condition.

Using the Redfield sight, I determined that it was a good shooter. 100 yards with some 50 year old LC match ammo.

Since then I've been looking for a suitable scope for it. CMP rules allow a 6 or 8 power external adjustment scope from various manufactures. I found a good deal on an 8 power Lyman Junior Targetspot. I've mounted it, but have not shot it yet.

I've still got to repair the stock...it has a padded butt plate on it and add the rear sight, which has been removed.
