Switchblades are illegal in Washington state.
I can carry a gun in my pocket but a switchblade knife I can be arrested.

If you think that's ironic, walk into an LGS with your carry to buy a gun. WA. state wants me to wait 3 days if I get a delay. I'm standing right there at the counter with a loaded Sig on my hip and I can't purchase a pistol without waiting 3 days for the state to complete a background check. No wonder Trump won the election.

When I lived in WA, having a current CCW eliminated the 3 day waiting period

Did you even watch the report?

Yup. And it was nothing more than hysteria and wrong facts, using sensationalized movies as a scare tactic. That is fake news.
There is no such thing as a $200,000 tax stamp for a can. They are $199,800 off.
There is no evidence suggesting this is what "assassins" use.
There is no evidence suggesting "quiet guns are a safety issue."

What they are saying is no different than if someone were to say, "Vitamin C cures cancer" or "there's 3-feet of snow in the desert." It's factually wrong, and there is no evidence to the contrary. The fact that other media outlets are not calling them out for the fake news sensationalism is disappointing. The way they depicted this story leads viewers to a conclusion BEFORE they even consider those in favor of the law, and that is NOT reporting. This comes only days after CNN claimed their credibility was higher than ever.

In Wyoming it is legal to own and carry an automatic knife. There is always a big jar of cheap "Switch Blades" on the counter at the local Sporting goods.
The law says they are not legal to be carried concealed? You must open carry the Auto knives? We can carry any firearm concealed no permit needed? Humm??:D

So, the part where the president of the silencer group (forget their name) said silencers are not evil was false news?

Reporting the opinions of the opposing side isn't false news, it's reporting the opinions of the opposing side.

Yes, the girl at the start said it was a $200,000 tax, but later in the report, her partner correctly reported it was $200 tax.

They did not say that all assassins had to have a silencer, they said a silencer seems to be a must have for all movie assassins. While one could make the argument that using the movie clips to slant the news, they were also used to illustrate the fact that silencers in real life don't work the way they are portrayed in movies. This isn't false news.

Go back and view the news clip again, but first, set aside your prejudices. You will see that for a CNN report, it's fairly balanced. That's good news for us because it means CNN sees which way the wind is blowing.

If you can't see that, then all I can say is, we really are our own worst enemy

That's a fair point regarding how not everything is inaccurate. Is the term "slanted" a better choice of vocabulary?

By showing that movie clip of suppressors being used offensively to kill people, that shapes opinion. Perhaps my own cynicism led me to believe it was intentional. But whether intentional or not, it still has an effect. Is the illustration that follows enough to offset that imagery? If you administer a survey or hold a focus group, and ask the same question two different ways, you can get (or control) a different answer.

I showed the news clip to two people who are not gun people and I said nothing regarding my own opinion, and asked their thoughts after they watched the clip. Their take was mixed regarding the bill. I'm going to ask a few more.

Including the Hollywood BS at all was an implicit indication of the report's bias. The fact that Hollywood misrepresents the use of suppressors has nothing whatsoever to do with real life. It was all a framing device which the reporter expects a viewer to use as a filter for the rest of the story. And since Hollywood is sexy and memorable, the bait and hook are set.

But the fact that CNN engages in disingenuous reporting doesn't matter because the rest of you have contacted your elected representative and Senator to support the House and Senate versions of The Hearing Protection Act, right?

Link to House version of the bill:

Link to Senate version of the bill:

If your elected officials aren't listed as a co-sponsor, it's time to give them a call or send a letter or email.

Yes, the report is slanted and your point about the movie clips being a part of that slant is well taken.

Your informal poll is interesting and I'd like to hear what further results you get

Why don't we start a Boycott of CNN, I know someone is going to say this is not gun related, but in fact it is. They have been Lying about every aspect of Guns, gun ownership, Gun related suicides, and the General evil of guns, etc forever now. Isn't it time we started fighting back. We have a Presidnt that understands this better than anyone. So how hard is it for everyone here to send an email to even 1 friend to Boycott CNN, it could turn into a Movement. It's like that quarterback who suddenly didn't get his contract renewed.
