CNN has a balanced report on an AR - 15

That was pretty cool. Of course, Cooper had to come along and ask, again "couldn't he do it without that high capacity magazine?". This, right after the guy said that he had evaluated all available weapons / options, and decided that this setup was the best, most efficient way he could do this.

He just HAD to get that little barb in there.

I am a bit surprised. For the most part, they seem to be a mouthpiece for the rabidly anti (legal) gun agenda.

Actually, Cooper asked a Softball question and the other journalist hit it out of the park....you couldn't really ask for more. Additionally, CNN showed some footage earlier that demonstrated the need for higher-capacity magazines by actually rapid-firing at a lot of Hogs. This is probably as good as it gets.

ARs are popular with veterans who have returned to civilian life and take up hunting for varmint control or big game with the right bullets. It is is a weapons system whose operation and safety they are familiar with. Think Civil War vets familiar with the 1860 Henry who bought Winchester 1866s, or vets familiar with .30-40 Krag or .30-06 Springfield opting for bolt actions, rather than dad's lever guns. The AR is the modern sporting rifle for many, just as the bolt action or the lever-action were the modern sporting rifle of their day.

That's true. I guess he had to ask SOMETHING. The reporter DID do a really good job. That certainly did put the situation in a positive light. I guess I'm just too used to seeing AC and CNN be biased...

Hey...I can see where you are coming from. I mean, very rarely are guns covered fairly on the news.

SP-1

I started woodchuck hunting about 1976 with an SP-1 AR-15 Colt.

I put THOUSANDS,upon thousands of rounds through it and took a 'few' chucks with it.

I have owned and hunted with one or more variations of AR-15/M-4 since then for hog, deer, chucks, coyote and never gave it much thought.

Now I see the press and political's demonize this TOOL.

Sad,very sad indeed.

.

Actually good interview.

And great question at the end with a great answer, "Sure, but he wouldn't be nearly as effective."
.

That was a good answer. I'm surprise, but glad, that the AR platform is shown in a manner other than what the usual suspects try to push it as. Some 'weapon of war' that has no other purpose other than blah blah blah...

But I bet some folks are losing their minds now about civilians owning those 'military thermal sights' lolol!

Man, those are cool!

Good hog hunting piece and commentary, even with the interviewer's question if high-capacity (standard capacity to us) magazines are necessary.

They just can't get over the magazine thing. It's a semi-automatic rifle like many out there. It's not a weapon of war, although it shares some cosmetic features.

How about we need those magazines because of multiple armed home intruders? Oh, I guess Obama forgot to send his gun-control task force that memo, and many, many others.

Feral hogs are a blight, and I wish everyone would hunt them with ARs (Armalite Rifles and variants) with standard 30 round magazines. Not the misnomer high-capacity 30 round magazines.

It is good that the question was asked, because then it got addressed in a reasonable fashion.

Pretty surprised to see a positive spin. I watch CNN occasionally but always have to flick channels when a gun related piece is being done because they cover it in a way that is biased against guns every time.

I wonder if people (or CNN) would feel the same seeing Uncle Ted shoot 400+ pigs from a helicopter in TX with his M4.....

I have no problems with this practice, but unless people realize just how bad the pig problem is here in the south, I just don't see them buying in to the AR need.

And good on this guy for creating a company to help eradicate the pig problem, creative solution, and entrepreneurial as well.

I was as balanced as CNN gets. Now I just wish they'd interview someone who was NOT in an agricultural setting so we can show the public why it's not just farmers and "those rednecks" who have a legitimate use for them.

We all know all you need is a double barrel shotgun. Fire two shots off the balcony! My fearless leader told me so, so it must be true!

Me too. You'll never see CNN or any other major news network (besides Fox) actually acknowledge the need for guns and self defense, especially hi cap rifles or pistols.

Pretty much. Now if CNN interviewed a few NOLA folks who used rifles to defend their families from looters, or the proverbial Korean shop keepers who fended off rioters during the LA riots... now that would be a news segment worth watching and distributing to friends!

But since it'll never happen, we just have to hang our hats on the bubba who shoots hogs in the farm fields!

CNN is rated most central.

If inforwars/foxnews watchers don't want to believe it...no one cares as studies have found them to be the least informed (as a group, not individuals specifically).

Hambulance.... I am LOLing.....

It was also nice to see the hog hunter speak clearly and articulate his work well.

This is not the first good gun piece from CNN. It's a shame stories like this are so counterbalanced by unsavory sorts like Mr. Morgan.

Mr. Morgan wasn't the one that came unglued when having an adult conversation.

We can have fundamental differences of opinions without being evil people

That may be but on the issue of gun control, liberal news is the least informed. They're unaware that there have been several mass shootings with low cap guns so they keep pushing mag cap limits and the assault weapons ban because certain guns look scary.

I try to watch several news agencies so I can sort through the bullcrap.

If anyone asks you why you need an AR - 15 just say Hog Hunting.

Nah, that's Ok. I am not ashamed of the real reason we have ARs. Self defense!! :)
You could say that they are light and your wife can handle it easier.
We should educate as many un - or - misinformed people as possible.

because people confuse mags/clips or armor piercing rounds....none of that really matters in the grand scheme of people getting killed.
