Last night, 1/24/09, CNN aired a piece on Miami, FL assault weapon crime.

This video runs about two minutes and should serve as an alert to get our facts in order on assault weapon crime and to start lobbying against the next ban. Upping the membership in organizations that defend the 2nd might be a good idea as well.

Key quote is towards the end of the video. The Miami Chief of Police identifies himself as a friend of Joe Biden and states that Biden has given him (and, in the voice over, the Mayor) assurances that a new AWB WILL be enacted.

I believe this is the opening move in prepping the sheeple for the next ban. The debate about IF it's coming is now over.

The preparation for the fight now begins.

IMO.

Someone I know posted about this on facebook and how automatic weapons and handguns were evil and how this wouldn't have happened if the AWB hadn't expired so I replied:

There are so many things wrong with that statement I don’t know where to begin…

First, The Clinton Assault Weapon Ban (AWB) had absolutely nothing to do with automatic weapons. It banned weapons with certain combinations of features:
Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
 Folding stock
 Conspicuous pistol grip
 Bayonet mount
 Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
 Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)

Most rifles could still be imported by simply welding their folding stock into the extended position. Fully automatic weapons have been heavily restricted since 1934 by the National Firearms Act. The effect of which has made the cost of legal automatic weapons so high as to put them out of the reach of most ordinary collectors. I say all that to say this: The AWB did little as far as actually slowing down gun production/importation

Secondly, nowhere in that story does it say the weapon WAS automatic.

Thirdly, I can almost guarantee you that the weapon in question was not acquired legally. People who do this kind of thing obviously do not care about breaking the law. He shot 9 people. Do you really believe that he went down to the local gun dealer, filled out his BATFE form 4473, his background came back clear, and he purchased the weapon with a smile on his face? No, he went into some street alley and bought it off some drug dealer. Lets actually enforce the laws in place before we start adding more laws that just make it harder for good people that just want to collect/shoot for fun/protect their family be able to.

Feel free to steal that if you want

Its coming fast. Look up HR 45. It was written up 1-06-09. You bet it will be signed.

We must be ready to muster our forces quickly and effectively. Now more than ever is the time to join the NRA

I think anyone who thinks it won't happen is fooling themselves. The only question is when and what will (and won't) be included.

Of course the media never bothers to tell you the important details like:

Was the rifle lawfully obtained?
Did the perp have a long line of crimes, but was still walking the street?
Where the rifle came from?

Any ban will only keep firearms out of the hands of law abiding types, criminals do and will continue to get firearms, and new firearms will continue to come into the country illegally.

One need only look to our Southern neighbor. Mexico has extremely stringent gun control laws where civilian ownership of almost anything other than a .22 rifle is verboten and permits are required just to buy that. Their murder rate is 17.5 per 100k people vs 7 for the USA. Then there's Israel, Switzerland, and Finland where gun ownership is widewpread but murder is lower than the US. That doesn't mean much to non gun people though.

This law and the laws like it are destroying this country, turning it into Soviet Russia. The congress has no power to regulate these issues. This is stretching the Commerce clause to a point at which it was NEVER intended.

I can't help but notice that ALL .gov agencies are exempted from this. :barf:

Are you sure? He said in his campaign that he wanted a government security force. Not to be mixxed with the US forces.

Yes, the Brownshirts will also be exempted.
We live in interesting times.
BTW, HR45 has no cosponsors, none. That's interesting in and of itself.
