I been reloading 124 and 147gr for about 10 years now but want to start reloading 115 gr for my 9mm pistols - primarily my Sig m11A1 and my Sig 320 compact for steel shot matches.

Upon checking my manuals for AA#7 powder, I have found that:
Speers Man. shows an OAL of 1.135"
Hornandy #9 shows an OAL of 1.100"
Checking Hodgon and Alliant web sites I have OALs: HOD-1.120" and ALL-1.135"

Would someone please suggest a good OAL to start with? And why the variances?

Thanks

It really depends on the ojive of the bullets used. Use what the bullets maker recommends and start there.

I can only concur with the above advice. Additionally, if in doubt, go with the length recommended for the most similar bullet profile.

Wow. I haven’t changed Bullets in a LONG time since the ones I use are just right for my weapons. With their own OALs using “the plunk test”.

Thanks all for your comments. A simple action like the “plunk test” I’ve forgotten. I did this when my son bought his last 9mm in Dec 17. The manuals suggest the one for the weapon they used for testing. I better go back and review my notebook.

Again thank you all.
