Coastal Brown Bear Defense/Black Tail Deer 45-70 handload....is it wishful thinking?

Yep, it never ceases to amaze me that the 30-30 delivers more energy to the target at 100 yards than the 44 Magnum does at the muzzle. Yet the 44 has the reputation as a behemoth and the 30-30 as marginal.
Yes well until you put the 30-30 in a contender etc,,, then it's ok to use...

The stainless guide guns are neat little Levers. I almost bought one myself once and then I shot a friends. Decided that the ol' ought-six would kill anything the guide gun would with less pain. Iffin I had a ought-six I was already comfortable carrying on my walks, I would not have any fears of it being incapable of doing anything a 45-70 could. My next investment for Bear protection would be a snubby hand-cannon to go with it and a can of pepper spray.

Will an '06 penetrate from it's chest to its sphincter? Will it enter, break one shoulder, go though the vitals, break the other shoulder, and say "bye bye" as it exits the other side? Ummm....? BUT,

Loaded with 200NP's, i say yes...

Personally, i'd load the 30-06 with NP's and feel just fine around big bears, i've shot enough big bears to know it will work just fine.

And, the 200NP's will out perform the factory cup/core 220's, no question in my mine, it's a better big game bullet!
