Anyone else read this, yet?
Just finished reading COBRA II: The Inside Story of the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq, by Michael R. Gordon and General Bernard E. Trainor.
I'm a military history buff and have read a lot of these kind of books, but this one is amazing. Its must reading for anyone who wants to understand what did and didn't happen in Iraq and why!
Trainor had access to everyone, from the generals down to privates, was himself involved in the first Gulf War and some of the early planning of the Iraq war.
I won't attempt to give a simple synopsis of the book here -- its too complicated and subtle to be put in simple statements. But suffice it to say, paraphrasing a past president, "mistakes were made" -- both in objectives and in force levels.
Very readable book.
