IMO, the demand for firearms is affected by more than just the economy. Recent times have taught us that the treat of and increase in regulation, the rhetoric over the Second Amendment and the emphasis on self-defense in the wake of mass shooting have cause firearms sales to skyrocket. Probably, on some level, buying guns as a hedge on hard times can help if one does the research, finds out what firearms are likely to be the most popular and buys smart. For sure, though, selling firearms in hard times should not the only strategy.
