Just got this email from Rocky Mtn. Gun Owners:

Cliff Notes: Yes on SB 69 and NO on HB 1174

January 19, 2007 - State Rep. Al White (R-Winter Park) today introduced a
measure to make Colorado's concealed carry permit
holder statewide database permanent.

"This should come as no surprise, as Al White has routinely done the bidding of
anti-gunners in the State Capitol," said
Dudley Brown, Executive Director for Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, Colorado's
largest gun rights organization. "Though highly
rated by the NRA, Rep. White has routinely voted against the interests of
Colorado gun owners, whether it be by raising
hunting fees, opposing the lowering of concealed carry fees, and many other
areas."

"The entry of law-abiding citizens into CCIC, the Colorado Crime Information
Center (the CBI website on CCIC describes it
as a criminal database - http://cbi.state.co.us/ccic/default.asp ), is nothing
short of calling permit holders
'dangerous'," said Brown.
"It's creating a huge list of gun owners, available
to all law enforcement for any reason, and
it is de facto registration."

In late 2002, it was discovered that some sheriffs were entering their concealed
carry permit holders into CCIC, a practice
that wasn't advertised or even noted on the permit application. The 2003
Concealed Carry law codified that practice, and
allowed it to continue until the summer of 2007, when it would sunset. Rep.
White's bill, HB1174, removes that sunset.

RMGO was the only organization that attempted to remove that database, and has
done so numerous times, including this
year's SB69 by State Senator Scott Renfroe. SB69 is expected to get a hearing
from the Senate Judiciary on Monday, Jan.
29th.

ETA: Mods feel free to pin this with the other CO CCW thread that's stickied to the top, just thought this was different enough to justify it's own thread for at least a little while.

Justin, I agree. One state is too many. The one that I'm licensed in is WAY too many.

I'll send letters and call. Anyone else??
