I can't believe this is not already on here!

The Colorado State House passed a bill (40 to 25) that if made in to law would allow any person who can legally possess a weapon and pass the State background check to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. It has to go thought a Democrat controlled Senate now so might get shot down. Interesting proposal though....

See Denver Post article for details:

Back in the '80s a white supremacist gang The Order targeted controversial leftie Denver CO talk show host Alan Berg for assassination: he put in an application for a permit to carry, and at that time his application was denied. He was murdered while unarmed. I suspect that given the widely known discretionary permit policies of Denver at that time, The Order expected Berg (returning from dinner with his wife) to be unarmed and an easy target.

While I would prefer a "shall-issue" permit scheme including a class on self defense law as applied in the courts of one's state, "Constitutional Carry" is preferrable to discretionary systems that assure the criminal that the law abiding citizen will be unarmed.

Here's a kick in the pants: some sheriffs in TN and judges in VA routinely denied permits under discretion not because they did not trust the majority of citizens to have the right to chose to be armed for self defense, but because they did not want to be held liable if someone legally permitted got into criminal or civil court. "Shall issue" in TN and VA has shown few problems when you hold the individual responsible for his or her own actions.

Vermont has had permitless carry for generations, and usually has a murder rate per 100,000 population per year that is one-third to one-sixth the national US average and often slightly above or slightly below "gunless" England.

Restrictive gun laws simply do not lower the crime rate, and allowing the RKBA of the lawabiding does not encourage criminal behavior, and may very well discourage criminal behavior.

Well, great, one more state where unlicensed, untrained people can carry concealed firearms! ;)

Vermont has had permitless carry since its independence in 1775.

Our criminal homicide stats for 2009:

Four murders.

Three committed with knives.

One with a hammer.

You do the math.

High homicide rates correlate more closely with population density and wealth disparity than with firearms ownership.

Forgive me if I took the wrong tone from your post NavyLT

Seriously? Your own signature touts being pro constitution and you write a little quip like this? Wow.. hypocrisy much?

1.I think a lot of people on here, would agree that the simple CCW class required to get a permit is a joke anyway. So having to get a permit is really helping... some training is better than none but I wouldn't train either father than I could throw them.

2. Constitutional carry is not about EVERYONE carrying. It is about enforcing our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. So being pro constitution shouldn't you be in support of it?

3. Ah screw it... not worth my time to continue pointing out your problems.

ON THE PLUS SIDE... there is a forum discussing discussing what you can do to help

BENBRU,

Where in my post did you read that I said anything that stated more unlicensed, untrained people carrying concealed guns was a bad thing?

C'mon, swabby, quit messin' with the members' minds!:neener::neener::neener:

Sorry, NavyLT, but I got the same negative semantic impact on it that BENBRU did. I had a hard time figuring out whether it was poor sarcasm or you really meant it, or what. You might want to edit it with a smiley or a <sarcasm> tag or something.

Several elections, I've helped Mike Kopp get elected and reelected. We'll see how the Senator handles this un. So far, he's been very pro 2d. Email was sent this day.

It'll never happen, unfortunately. Firstly: Democratic Senate. Secondly: $152. Or that's what it cost me for my initial permit in Douglas County. There's too much money to be made in the permit system.

It's too bad Denver influences so much of the politics in this State, because once you leave the city the rest of Colorado really doesn't bear any resemblance to it.
