Hello,

I purchased a Colt "Combat Delta 10" 10mm today and have some questions on it. First of all what can you tell me about it? Second from what I have read. I should be looking at replacing the springs asap is that correct? Weight on the springs? Also it came with a "Clark 10mm" barrel is that normal or something I should be worried about.

Thank you guys.

Well thats good to hear. I was originally looking for a SW 10XX but I couldnt find one and ran across this Colt. I ordered the replacement springs, what about the different models.

Is there many differences at all in them?

You should add a recoil buffer to that new 23 LB spring.
Buffers can create more headaches than they solve. The guns were designed to run with certain spring rates and that's all that's needed. One thing to watch for on the early Deltas is the small crack they can develop in the frame. The Elites have that area cut out to solve that problem.

Are you saying there were "Deltas" and "Elites"?.......as in 2 different rollmarked Colt 10mms?

I have never heard of this.....?

Thanks....

Nor have I, but that doesn't mean much :)

Mine is a Colt 10mm Delta Elite. Are there other variants?

Thanks,

There were roughly 12 limited edition releases of Delta variants. They are all slightly different. Most were limited production runs of 500 guns or less. The combat delta 10 is one of the limited editions. Most of the variations were cosmetic such as finish, etc. Some were functional.

These limited edition versions are in addition to the "standard delta elite" configurations which include the DE, the DE Gold cups, the enhanced, the stainless vrs. blue and the ultra finishes.

There were also Gold cup Delta variants including the Gold cup 10 and the Gold cup Match. The delta gold cup was also made in blue one year.

In addition to the combat delta 10 there were the
Match 10
Elite custom
combat delta 10
Elite 10
Elite 10/40
Ultra 10
Delta 10 (in blue and stainless)
custom combat 10
Elite Team
The first edition guns (blue and stainless)

The were also the double eagles in 10mm. Not deltas but part of the extended family.

Yah, mine is rollmarked "Combat Delta 10" with a stainless frame and blue slide.

Inside the gun looks to be a dual captive recoil rod/spring. Upon disassembly yesterday I was unable to seperate the two. I am hearing good and bad about the recoil buffer, but kinda usure about them.

I did a soap and air test yesterday. I was unable to see any cracks in the frame that would be normally invisible. I will probaly have it sent out to a gunsmith to replace all the springs and do a safety check.

"Myself", can you give me a idea of the value of the handgun. More for insurance purposes, looked in the Blue Book it doesnt break down by model. Also since I cant find a date of birth for the gun.

The prices for the limited edition colt 10mm's has been all over the map lately. A gun in very good to excellent condition should range from $900 - $1200. If it has been modified possibly a little less. I have seen NIB lettered guns going for $1800+. The limited edition colt 10's are usually hard to find but there are a bunch of them currently for sale on gunbroker. This may result in some bargains being had by somebody.

Many do not like the stock colt double spring plastic guide rod setup. I have also read of people who have been shooting it for years without problems. I personally would try it and see how it works for you before replacing parts.

The frame cracking is an often exaggerated and misunderstood non-issue. A few of the early colts experienced a non functional cracking problem. Colt simply removed the offending material. The best explanation of the issue can be found at this web site.

Well I probaly shouldnt be looking to send it out to Yost Bonitz for the 1* Elite 1911 Pistol then.

She has her first trip to the range Wednesday.

I'm not sure about much but I have a Colt Delta in 10mm and a Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup. Both are fantastic handguns and will stay with me till the grave. Of course I will be a tad heavy as I have 9 45,s of various persuasions lol.
