I think the gun in your picture is a 32 Long on the Police Positive 38 (not Special) frame. That's a nice variation; a little more heft to steady the hand, but not as much weight and bulk as a Special. And the one in the picture is a beauty, which I should have said.[/QUOTE]

It Is. I had a Police Positive Special for a while but believe the short-cylinder variation is "prettier." In addition to the array of names associated with this basic platform were the l.22 LR and .38 special Diamond Backs made to resemble little bitty Pythons.

The reproduction is, as you say, high quality.

I have seen the reproductions and they're easy to tell apart from the originals. Whether they're "high quality" or not is an open question.

I have one, and you are quite right. But I think replicating the quality of the original Colts on anything like a mass production basis would be very difficult. How difficult, I have no idea. Turnbull and perhaps some others could do it, but what do you think they would cost? Twice what they do now? At least now, they are somewhat affordable, like the Schofield replicas.

Like I said, I agree with you that they are not up to the standard of a 1930's original, but I am not complaining either.
