Friend of the family just died, leaving a very excellent condition 1908 hammerless Serial # 86XX.Any idea as to value?
thanks

That's an early gun, made in 1911. The value would depend on the condition it's in, and if it has the original black hard-rubber grips and magzine.

In excellent condition the value would run around $400.00

I have one that was made in 1922. They are very well made and surprisingly accurate considering the size and rudimentary sights. I have not shot mine much and don't think I've ever shot hollow points through it but it has been 100% reliable with the ball ammo I've run in her. If the safety was a little more robust they would make a good back up gun even though the .380 is considered by most very marginal.

That's a nice looking gun you have there. I would say Old Fuff is pretty close with the $400. Since it is any early one it might be worth a little more to someone that is looking for that years gun. Colts that are taken care of don't go down in value often. Here is a web site that has some good info and take down instructions.
