So, anybody have any first hand experience with a Colt 2000? They've got one at my LGS, with two magazines that sort of interests me. I was around when Colt tried these things, and don't think there was ever a bigger bomb, at least not it my lifetime. I don't think there was a single good review of the gun, and Colt couldn't give them away as best I remember.

The one at the LGS is only the second or third one I've ever even layed eyes on. I did ask the see it yesterday, and I have to admit that it feels good in my hand. Trigger is sort of weird...heck the whole gun is sort of weird.

I'm not thinking of buying it. I've got too many guns now that I don't shoot, and I'm not willing to pay the asking price, or even what I think I can reasonably expect them to come down to. I'll leave it there for some serious Colt collector, but I was wondering if anyone had any actual experience with one?

Yes. Way back when I was a Federal Firearms Instructor. Myself and another Instructor were picked to evaluate pistols for the upcoming switch from .38 revolvers to 9MM semi-automatics. I never shot so many 9"s in my life! Ammunition had to be Winchester Silver Tips. The Colt 2000 was one of the guns tested. It looked cool and felt pretty good in the hand, but was not a pistol I would carry, Sights were tiny and hard to pick up. The trigger was awful. Like dragging a stick through gravel. Even with taking are time and concentrating neither one of us could get a decent group. From the holster it didn't point well. I remember having to adjust my grip every time. I don't recall any malfunctions so at least the gun worked. Needless to say we were not impressed and said so. If I was a Colt collector I'd grab a 2000. As a shooter, no way.

Actually, I didn't think the trigger was "BAD." It was definately different, with a long, straight back pull, but it wasn't especially gritty or heavy, but then I was expecting something like a Nagant revolver I think.

Saw one at a gun show some years back. The gun's ergonomics were poor and it felt kind of awkward to hold. Sights were on the small side. The trigger was just as bad as the rest of the gun; mushy, long, and heavy.

Overall a memorable gun but for all the wrong reasons!

I’ve always heard the trigger could be best compared to a squirt gun like I had when I was a kid.

You know...that's not too far off really. It does come straight back with a rather long takeup, and it seemed an even longer reset. It was interesting to look at, but easy to see why it didn't sell.

I posted this on the other Colt AA 2000 by mistake, so this is a duplicate.

I bought the metal frame one when it first came out thinking it would become a collectible.

The grip feels great, but I couldn’t get past the squirt gun trigger. I never shot it, just put it in the safe.

As an aside, I am a huge pistol mag guy. I want 6 minimal, more is better. If a gun isn’t made anymore I will buy just about every mag I find. I came across a screaming deal of 9 All American mags for something like $125 for all. I didn’t even consider buying them knowing that I would never shoot the gun. That should give you an idea of what I think about that pistol.
