Hi
I need some info, I have a chance to pick up a Colt government series 80, 380 it has wood grips with the gold Colt medialon. This is the first time i have ever run across one and would like to know if they are reliable or if they have any problems and what would be a good price. thanks in advance for any help

I've got one.
Nice looking little gun but one of the most inaccurate, jam-o-matics I've ever owned.

I installed a full length one piece recoil spring guide rod, which helped a little.

I'd sell the gun in a second but I really can't stick someone with a gun as unreliable and inaccurate as that gun.

I paid $400 for it and since have seen them higher and in worse shape at gun shows.
Knowing the gun's problems I wouldn't give $75 for it now.

HEY! I will give you $75 for it. You can have that awful memory out of your hair.
I'll keep that in mind but I hardly ever get rid of a gun, even the bad ones.:)

I still have the hope that I might do some good with the gun, but I haven't even looked at it for several years.

I understand some years back there was a aftermarket spring/guide rail that worked good but I haven't been able to find one.

Thanks for the info guess i better run from this one.

I don't mean to turn you off. Maybe I just got a bad one but for what these little pistols cost I wouldn't take the chance on another one.

I think that these are starting to become more for collecting than shooting. My remembrance of a friend who had two was that one was perfect and one was a jam-o-matic.

If I could find one at a resonable price I would get it just to have it, but would not buy as a shooter or CCW.

Just to pile on: I have one.
It doesn't run either.

That's too bad.
I think it's a cool little Colt.
I had thoughts of carrying it once in a while. I even bought a holster before I found out I couldn't work the bugs out of it.

I have two 1903 Colts that are just gems.

My Colt .380 Govt. model runs great. I've also got a Plus II and it runs good too, but the Govt. mdl works much better.

I'll be happy to relieve you of your little Colt and I'll up the bid to $100.
Seriously though, I have a Government MKIV series 80 and a Pony Pocketlite that are pretty reliable and I'll put them up against any of the 380's made today as far as accuracy is concerned. I know the Colt Gov does every bit as well as my Bersa T or Sig P232. The little pocketlite does circles around the LCP or KT in every category.
Maybe I just lucked out. I also polished every damn part in both pistols to ensure both ran smoothly. ;)

nice 1903, i've got one just like it and it shoots real sweet, guess i'll have to see if i can shoot this 380 first to see if it works or not.

I have one and really enjoy it. I hear it's inaccurate but if you shoot it enough you can get good at it. Check out this article on the Colt Gov .380

The beautiful Afzelia Xylay grips are from 4S Brand. Mr. Smith did a fantastic job.
