What's a good price for a used Colt AR-15 A2??? Also will the A2 shoot both 5.56 and .223. Are there any issues with shooting .223 form it? Thanks.

i think you could pick a nice used one up between $1000-$1100
the colt model your looking for is 6920 if i'm not mistaken
my colt 20inch h-bar is chambered in 556 and yes you can shoot 223 in a 556 chamber no prob
its the outher way around that will not work

If it's stamped 5.56x45 on the barrel, then yes. It should also be stamped with the twist rate on the barrel, too, and will probably be 1 in 7.

The majority of Colt rifles are 5.56x45mm chambered, some of the target versions are .223 only.

Still need a bit more information on it. I can't give you a value, but what price are you looking at? Hopefully a good bit under $1000 (because you can buy a new, up to date Colt 6920, flattop, with a 16" barrel for that price rather than a rifle with fixed A2 sights).

it's not a 6920. 6920 is the LEO version of the M4, not an A2. A2 has the carry-handle, not flat-top.

price will vary widely for used guns based on condition and collectability (for old guns like A2) and whether or not it was pre-ban if you're in a ban state. so it's kinda hard to generalize. go check out gunbroker for the top-end of the price range

Does it have a light weight skinny barrel or a heavy barrel?

I have a 6520 which is a 16 inch A2. What does it say on the side?

I have a Colt pre-ban H-Bar that says .223, but does just fine with GI ammo as well as my .223 handloads. No problem.

Early Colt semi-auto's had receivers marked .223, to differentiate them from full-auto 5.56 marked M-16's.

If it is that early a Colt, it probably also has a 1/12 twist barrel and will be restricted to 55 grain or less ammo. But it is perfectly safe with 5.56 & .223 ammo, because it is in fact chambered for 5.56.

There wasn't any of this 5.56 vs .223 foolishness until just very recently anyway.
And that was due to a few problems with tight bore .223 SAKO's and tight chambered .223 Remington 40-X target rifles blowing primers with 5.56 ammo.

To my knowlwdge, the only Colt AR-15's ever chambered in .223 Remington were stainless steel HB barrel target/varmint rifles, and they will be so marked on the unfinished SS barrel.
